Has anyone installed the Putnam Class V hitch on their 3rd Gen truck? If so, how much trouble was it to install and has it worked well for you?

I have one. Install is not too bad. I would say it took me about 2-4 hours.

Most of the time was spent using a sawzall to cut the old receiver tube off of the cross bar.

I use the hitch for sledpulling and it works great, very heavy duty!

Great pic's jwilliams3!! I'm planing on the same switch. I pull an 8,000lb RV and use a Hensley Arrow WD hitch. I think that the WD bars put A LOT of torque on the stock receiver. Can you tell me if the reciever hole for the XDR ends up at the exact same hight as the stock one??? My trailer pulls PERFECTALLY level now. What's the best price for a "25211"?? Thanks Joe.

Putnam XDR install

jw3,

Thanks for posting all of the pics on your install. I am looking at all the class V hitches and so far the Putnam looks the best to me since it DOES NOT mount under the old receiver tube like Reese and Draw Tite. As much as i love the Tiger Saw, my good friend Mr. Torch will be assisting, however!

The pics from jwilliams3 were of great help during my install.

I wanted to show one change that I made from the typical Putnam install. Rather than cutting off the OEM receiver flush with the bottom of the tube, I decided to get creative and to leave as much of the original brackets behind as possible. The reason was that I wanted to weld the OEM and Putnam hitches together to provide additional strength beyond the 2 bolts connecting the two. It took several sawzall blades and air cutter wheels and a lot of time and patience, but I like the results.

The below pictures show the results prior to painting. I'm still able to access the safety chain holes from the sides.
