i just got my new pyro back (now with the thermocouple actually in the kit). anyways, it's stuck at around 500*. i haven't hooked anything up yet-or taken it out of the package this time. i know they're suppose to be calibrated, but will it go back to normal temp once the power wires are hooked up? should i send this kit back too for another one?

What brand is the Pyro?? All of mine (isspro) drop to 0 unless power is running through them. The Banks guage I used to have was similar, but never dropped completely to 0. You might have a bad gauge.

autometer ultra lite. the first one i got was stuck at 150*, but i had to send the whole kit back (i didn't wiring anything in).

Edit- i didn't send the kit back due to the temperature. i thought that they were suppose to be at room level, but i know that you need two power sources for the autometers. so...

Depends on the type of thermocouple and gauge used. If it is a self powered unit with the cold junction built into the gauge like the Di-Pricol when you plug into the thermocouple the gauge will read close to ambient temp. If the gauge has a power module like Isspro EV it will need to be connected properly and powered before it will read correctly.

yeah, two power sources. i thought that it'd go back to 0, but i just wanted to be sure. tomorrow-drilling and tapping. woohoo.

Mine too! It could be right @ 300 when I shut it off or just under 300 but as soon as I cut it off it goes to 400.

Wire it up and try it first before you send it back. My guess is as soon as you turn the key it goes to 0 or 100 or whatever is the coldest on your gauge.

You guy's will get a laugh at this. I was sit'n in my truck one night last week had the key turned back to listen to the radio, while I was actually chat'n more on the CB than listening to the radio. Anyhow something caught my attention and I looked up and thought I saw my EGT gauge on 16:eek:

Turned on my dome light and sure enough my gauge had wrapped around to 16?!?!:--) Anyhow I turned the key over to the start position and it came back so I just left it alone. :-laf

i wired it up yesterday and it's at 0 (i should have made that more clear). it goes to outdoor temp when i turn the key as it's wired into fuse #11. so. . i'm gonna drill and tap it tonight and then i'll see if everything works.
