beta testing is still going on, but I have a feeling its getting close to finished. You can keep track of it over on DTR, theres quite a few lengthy threads over there.

Quad says update is coming this week, if it is good we will probably go to stage 2 of testing with commander.

apparently I am WAY behind, what is this adrenaline? As I am an avid smarty user/fan. So naturally I am curious when people are selling their smarty for this adrenaline thing.

If everything works out, this thing should make as much power as a smarty stacked with something else, say a TST powermax or edge comp. Its light years ahead of everything else though. Everyone beta testing it says the power is so much smoother than the other stuff, and that the bottom end is killer. It has egt defueling, turbotimer, high idle, and you can download different programs to it with its usb port. It'll probably be my first and last box. If you wanna know more, like I said above, check out the threads on DTR. It sounds like Quad is getting close to getting all the bugs worked out of it.

The base of the Adrenaline is a 32 bit processor which allows quad to do so many more things than other manufacturers. It feels like Smarty off idle, but adds a fuel tap to the mix which makes it even stronger. The power is smooth & hard hitting. We beta testers are only running the factory production tuning & it is already stronger than my Drag comp/smarty stack. Guys who have dynoed it are getting the same numbers as a Drag comp & remember it has the smarty lowend & still matching the Drag comp where the Smarty would actually make hp numbers fall when stacked. The features of this box are unreal & stage 3 of the testing is gonna be a shocker! Can't say anymore though.

Well cummins724 as you know I ordered an adrenaline already and was wondering if quad will be releasing the adrenaline alone when stage one is done with beta testing or will all three stages have to be done in order to get the adrenaline. And as far as to what info you can give out I see that stage two will be the commander and all the features it comes with and it seems as though it will be able to just hook up to the adrenaline. Is this so? And as for stage three do you know enough about it to say that it will be able to just go right along with stage one and two? So in a yes or no form i'm asking if I will be able to buy the adrenaline and use it and then get the commander when testing is through and then use/adapt/hookup or whatever the third stage. Would appreciate any comments I can get without getting you in trouble. Thanks Chris

I have no idea how he will handle it.

I hope someone does a low end comparion to be honest. We shall see

I would like to see this also. Adrenaline PL02 vs. Smarty same dyno same day kinda deal. Anything over PL02 wouldn't be fair because quad uses a pump tap on levels 3-10 & it gets crazy from there.

smarty

well honest I was happy when I did get it. Marco did a night and day difference for vp-44 owners. since then I have no cruise issues but I dont care for the hard hitting low end. most drivers with a manual have had to learn to drive and shift different if they are in high software numbers. I do like some of the smarty. but if this shows to be reliable and smoother and better low end, I will try it. I dont like the fact that I cannot be in SW. 9 and switch SW on the fly. that is getting old!. . but we will see in due time the reality of the new program from Quad. (they do seem more driven to fix or upgrade and to come out with a possible better product. ) I say that from all the threads I have kept eye on dealing with the smarty hitting a wall on the improvement side for the vp owners, but they are putting alot of process on the common rail. I'm not sending out smoke signals for a **** match by saying this. time will tell on both Quad and Marco for us vp's

So is there any kind of ballpark timeline for the various stage releases or are they playing it by ear?

He wants to get every little bug worked out before releasing the Adrenaline & ran into a snag trying to find a 99 model test truck willing to drive to his shop. He got one in the shop on saturday & says that the bugs are fixed & software will be released for testing soon. I think it will be released for sale at the end of the month, but just guessing here.

Even if it isn't as radical low end as Smarty it may be a huge improvement, considering it not only gives low end but wire tap upper end performance. My opinion - the only real 'wow factor' Smarty has is the low end, though unfortunately that causes other issues (cruise/transmission shift weirdness) that have NOT been addressed. :-{}

I just want to hear how it 'behaves' with an auto transmission and on cruise control. If it eliminates stacked shifts and allows cruise control usage I am in. Immediately upon release. And no looking back.

For some of us, drivability is what it's all about. Really.

It definately gives the low end of Smarty, but with cooler egts & way less smoke. The pedal isn't as aggressive, but the power is definately there by seat of the pants feel pulling 15k#. I've stacked the 2 together & noticed that it felt a little stronger at mid range, but got some smoke rolling. When Smarty came out, I bought it because it gave the best lowend torque available... . that is all I care about when towing. The quad box feels stronger on any level above PL02 & I've put 15mph on my old record topping balls hill pulling 15k#, that is all the testing that I need.

When I ran the Smarty/Drag stack, I ran 3x3, SW2 when towing & saw 1400* max towing 15k up balls hill. The Adrenaline PL05 gets max egt 1150* & gained 15mph topping the hill. I have towed the same load with Smarty sw3, Drag off & it didn't feel as strong towing the same load... . that is why I switched to sw2, 3x3.

It definately gives the low end of Smarty, but with cooler egts & way less smoke.

Something isn't sitting well with me on this one. To make the same power you need about the same amount of fuel, and the same amount of fuel will give you about the same amount of smoke (assuming all other engine components remain the same). On a diesel, to reduce smoke you either have to reduce fuel or add air, and a box has no direct control over air input. So there has to be a reduction in fuel. Unless they throw in a huge timing advance that would also clear up some smoke and drop egts, but that's not always a good thing.

A 50 ft/lbs difference can't be felt SOTP, and I'd be surprised if 100 ft/lbs can really be felt with 15k in tow. And smoke and egts are subjective at best, considering a 20* temp or 20% humidity change can make a huge difference in what is percieved. I really like the features of this box and would consider upgrading from the Comp, but a few more need to hit the street and a several months need to pass before I make the move. Right now it sounds a little too amazing.

I'm not sure if it is because he adds more timing or less fuel or what. All I know is this box gives way less smoke off idle & is smoother on the bottom. I tested the XZT+ in the middle of summer & compared it to Smarty fueling. The XZT+ was cooler & cleaner than Smarty, but the power/driveability felt the same. If Smarty does show higher numbers on the dyno, I would be surprised because it doesn't show higher numbers on the speedo. All that matters to me is getting this load moving & staying cool doing it with minimal smoke. My company name is in big letters on my back window & smoking people out doesn't get me jobs.

I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that the Adrenaline looks at far more parameters than the other boxes out there to control the fueling. I think all the other boxes on the market look at mainly boost to control fueling. The power of the 32bit processor allows it to do that.
