so for a long time i have wanted to eliminate the rear lift blocks on my truck. i have recently discovered that there are kits available to do shackle flips on our trucks and that it adds about 4in of lift, by my figuring that would keep the truck at the current height while eliminating the blocks. this has been my on going goal. my question is who hear has done the flip and what changes did you see in doing it? is load capacity affected? is ride quality different? im seeking as much info on the subject as i can find. any inputs?

I have helped some people do it, it was more like 1. 5" lift using stock shackles, rides greatly improved, sags a bit easier but overall weight capacity would be the same. Id be concerned with pinion angle if you moved the rear of the springs down far enough to lift the truck 4", would need shims to adjust the axle.

Like Bob said there is some good info on DTX about it, atleast 2 2nd gen write ups on it with pics.

I have done some research and this is what I came up with: Flipping the shackle will give you better articulation and less axle wrap, but will hurt stabilty and allow the rear to squat easier. For this reason, flipping the shackle is not recommended for heavy towing.

This is just what I have read in different posts. I have no first hand experience with the shackle flip, so I cannot attest to the accuracy. . I hope this helps.

I flipped my rear shackles, ditched the rear sway bar and love how it handles. But I also am running 2. 0 Bilstein 7100 shocks with good valving.

I recently had about 3600lbs of concrete in the bed and I only have factory leafs, (with top overloads removed) and it squated a little but still had about 1. 5" of shock showing (I am normally at about 4. 5 showing.

Also the DTX thread on the topic
