Well I am about to do my upper and lower ball joints on the passenger side for the second time. . Its been about 100k miles since the last time and it seems the passenger sides wear out faster than the drive side.

I have the ball joints (ordered from Quad 4x4 a while back) but while I have the entire assembly apart I plan on changing out my wheel bearing and U-Joint. I think these are the correct part numbers but could someone please verify. .

U-Joint - Precision 374

Front Axle Bearing - Timken HA590020

and from what I understand I will need new wheel studs -

Raybestos 27891B - $6. 91 each from RockAuto:eek:

Thanks in advance.

Jack

Looks right to me. You'll probably want to plan on the axle seals while you have it down that far. If you did it 100k ago you probably know, they'll be dry and won't tolerate the axles getting slid back through them.

just wondering on the last 3 trucks I never replaced the wheel studs. they were never appeared to be stretched or bad. but wondering what the reason is. time duration heat, pressure etc. ??

Thanks for the replies guys... .

Batphreak - yes I thought about replacing the seals but I think it is a PIA without the proper tools?? Last time I was very careful but you have me thinking my luck might be up on the seals...

DIESELWRKS - I guess pressing out the old ones to install in the new bearing assembly is not recommended. . not sure but from reading they suggest replacing them??

Well installed all the parts yesterday and the seal installation was a challenge as I figured it would be. . good thing I had two on hand because I messed up on the first attempt. The original bearing assembly still seemed fine but I went ahead and replaced it with the new Timken. . figured better safe than sorry with 270,000 on the clock. .
