I recently had moisture in my drivers side (projector style) headlight. After consulting with my local body shop friend/owner says “yup, see it all the time, I recommend that you just replace it”. He tried to order a new one from their Ram parts supplier only to find that they are back ordered everywhere. The Ram dealer found one at a dealer near Detroit so they arranged to send it to the body shop dealer to dealer. We are on a cross country trip with our RV it arrived the day before we pulled out. That night after it was installed I discover that the LEDs for the marker light in the side of the new headlight don’t light up. On closer inspection, they don’t light up because they’re not there! I may be OCD but I paid list price of $780 for an OEM part that should be just like the original to get this fixed for our trip. I saved the old one but only for parts and I didn’t want to store it in the RV so I shipped it back home. So what do I do, open a warranty claim with Ram parts? I wouldn’t think it would meet DOT rules missing the side marker lights.

What did the installer say? Maybe you use the old one. It might be part of the pig tail and not the light.

Old one worked fine, just had moisture it it. It’s plug and play. The LEDs are physically not present. He would order another light and replace it, but, I’m 4 states away now. The old one arrived in Florida yesterday.

Aftermarket LED lights would be a good source. Essk Customs has good quality products. Geno’s garage has top quality aftermarket replacements as well.

Yes, ordered by VIN number. Hopefully just a fluke and they’re not all like this. Thanks sag2. I was hoping it would be that easy. I’ll keep you all informed.

I haven’t looked closely at a 4th Gen headlight, but my 2nd Gen headlight was getting water in it and I found the lens is siliconed to the bucket. I was able to carefully separate the two, clean both pieces, and reseal them with clear silicone. Never had another leak. You might look at the old one and see if you can reseal it for future use or to sell.

When looking at the left headlight it appears there is amber light coming from the upper section just behind/aft of the chrome trim with two dots of light emitting just immediately fore on the side marker reflector. It does not show a similar light pattern in the passenger side picture. Is that light refraction from the assembly and camera angle, or could the led packet be "misplaced" behind the reflector unit in the assembly? Still a defect either way...

Bruce you may be onto something. I can't really tell in the daylight but I think there are definitely lights coming through in that edge piece of plastic. I'll giver it a closer look tonight after it gets dark.
