I bought my '03 about 3 years ago with the in-tank conversion already installed. I bought and installed a kit with a Raptor 100 pump that included modding the fuel pickup assembly. Here I am with around 2 years and less than 20K on the pump and it has quit. At this point I am seriously kicking myself for not just leaving the in-tank pump in place. I'm considering 2 options: A walbro 392 with return regulator or a new in-tank pump kit. I'm going to try to warranty/repair the Raptor, but it's not going back on the truck long term. My "permanent" setup is a Smarty Jr and BSM 50hp injectors. Would the in-tank pump support my HP level? I see the Walbros on Ebay for a good price. Where is a good place to pick up a regulator?

Also, I will be taking this opportunity to add a Fleetgaurd FF5230 between the stock canister and CP3.
 
I had increasingly bad luck with Walbro 392 pumps. My 1st went 100,000 miles,2nd 50,000 and the third never made it out of the driveway. I replaced them with the factory in tank kit 100,000 miles ago.
 
I had a walbro 392 and it crapped out in about a year. Richard at Glacier warrantied it but I switched to a Raptor. The replacement Walbro has been on my brother's 06 for a few years now without problems. My Raptor has been going strong for 4 or 5 years now. I like the adjustable pressure, the internal return, but hate the noise and bulky mounting. The Walbro is quit, a "hidden.

As far as the stock in-tank pump and pressure goes, my experience is that it is not strong enough to extra filtration. I have a Stanadyne fuel manager 1000 (unfoturately, it is only 5 micron absolute) behind the stock filter. When I had the Walbro, I kept the stock pump and had a toggle to switch them back and forth (so I'd have a back up pump) . If I was on the stock pump, I could easily pull down the fuel pressure to 0 (even at stock hp). So I would advise against the in tank pump if you are using extra filtration.

Raptors in general seem to be a good pumps so you could replace it or go with a FASS.
 
I've been running a FF5230 on a GDP mount for years with no pressure issues with the in tank pump. My trucks are stock however. I have no feedback on if it will support yours with fueling mods.
 
I'm running the GDP mount with a Donaldson P551313 which I understand is a little finer than the FF5230. No issues, but like jgillott, I am stock.

BDaugherty, Question for you... Do you tend to run your fuel tank low a lot before refueling? All of these electric fuel pumps depend on fuel inside them and surrounding them for cooling. When the tank is run low a lot, the pump can run hot and fail early. I am NOT saying that is what you have done but just a question. Chris
 
This post has swayed me towards a repaired raptor if it's cost effective. I rarely run the tank low and even if it was low, my trips tend to be short enough that I don't think hot fuel was my problem. I think it's just the nature of aftermarket parts. The walbro on my 01 is still going strong and it's possible that I just got a not so great raptor. Regardless of anything, I think it should have lasted longer than 20k miles. I prefer to use fleetgaurd filters mainly due to the incredible pricing I get through my business.

*UPDATE* I called AirDog today and after emailing them a copy of the original purchase receipt and pump S/N, they have shipped me out a replacement at no cost to me. It took a couple tries, but I got a guy on the phone who was polite at called me back very quickly after receiving my Email. Even though I'm a little gunshy at this point, I will probably run the pump that cost me nothing and took no time to modify.
