After having a shuttering feel to the brakes yesterday I pulled the tires off the truck to check for problems. I found that the passengers side rear rotor to be completely destroyed. The inside face of the rotor is maybe 1/32" thick. The outside face is fine as well as the other three rotors. I guess the caliper must have failed. I just had the truck in to the dealer for a 100k service since I had the 100k warranty and the truck had 98k. I called the dealer and they stated that they checked the brakes and found no problems two weeks ago. Now I have to locate new rotors and calipers which I am finding to be difficult. My truck will probably be out of commission for a week or so until the new parts are in. This failure gave no warning indication other than the shuttering that I felt. There were metal shavings all over the inside of the wheel and rotor.

Just wanted to make everyone aware of the situation. Don't hesitate to check your rear brakes for unusual wear. I have found out the hard and expensive way.

Anyone else experience this problem?

Sorry for being so long.

Yep-same deal to me but I can't remember which side of the truck now-driver's or passenger's. My rotor was actually cut to the cooling fins! Not good.

I too had the same problem, Actually I caught it in time. My wife had the truck for the weekend and I always check it out when she gets back. I heard a little scratching in the passenger side rear wheel and checked it out. The lining was gone. I had the pads ready to install and checked out the rest of the brakes. I could pry most of the pads from the metal backing with a screwdriver. They were completely invaded by rust and the bond was junk. I was at the dealer a little later and asked the service manager if that was ever a problem and he says "Sometimes" Nice huh? So check em out, it could save you big time. My rotor was a little scratched but I didn't replace it. It is the first time I have ever let something like that go but the braking was smoothe and it is now shined up like the rest of them. Lucky I guess.
