Does anyone know if TSB 999925743 is applicable for the 2006 year model 2500 for using 75w/140 gear oil when towing? Or is there one covering this year model? The owner's manual and shop manual only cover 75w/90 for all uses. Thanks for any help.

I have never seen that TSB. When I changed out both of the diff fluids, I went to Amsoil Severe Gear 75w140 fluid BECAUSE I tow and live in a hot climate with hot road temps.

Some have gone to the Amsoil 75w110 Severe Gear. Some are using other brands, but many have gone up to the 775w140.

The manual DOES say 75w90 but my dealership told me to go up to that weight because in their words "they have seen failures and DC put out a service memo".

75w-140 for the AAM 11. 5 axle in our '03 and up trucks was given as a service advisory in '03. I approached my dealer on using 140 and he showed me the advisory from Dodge.

Some one needs to look in a 06/07 etc. service manual as you would think it would be updated. All I ever read was the 75w140 was for 1500 trucks and not the AAM 11. 5 axel. Would like to see the service advisory stating the 75w140 for the 11. 5 aam axel.

Differential Oil

I did a search on differential oil and found that OT-OF-HERE contacted AAM and asked what weight oil to use on 07-06-2004. He was told 75W-90 pure synthetic with no additives. So... . I called them today and asked the same thing, talked to the same guy, Bob Dunn, and was told to use 75W-90 synthetic only. I didn't ask about additives, but I'm sure the answer would be the same. Looks like I will be ordering 75W-90 from Amsoil today.

I would think the 90 is good up to the GCVW rating. People who overload, or tow all the time may benefit from the 140. The thicker oil will cost you a little mileage penalty, and run a little hotter.

The TSB is for the 9. 25 rear axle, with towing package (clearly an overloaded axle). Our trucks have one that small on the front.

I wouldn't tell anyone what to use in their truck. It's getting time to replace mine, so I checked with AAM since there are so many different opinions here (dah). I just thought I'd pass along what the manufacture recommends. One of the local dealers I asked also replaces with 75W-140 synthetic.

Notice I did not tell him what to put in - just what I did. ALL this stuff IS up to you the owner to decide for by yourself and the means by which you take advice and from whom.

There is a thread over on the Carson Dodge forum that discusses this extensively, that might be a real good place to go to and seek more information AND it does give you the opportunity to ask your questions as well.
