Suggestions for Dealing with Dealer

If you have a 2001 HD 2500 or 3500 truck with rear drum brakes, instead of the advertised and correct rear disc brakes PLEASE call the Federal Trade Commission toll free at 1-877-382-4357 and register your complaint. This corporate cost cutting substitution seems to be in direct disregard for the consumer, who pays a lot of money for these vehicles. Also, if you have one of these vehicles, please e-mail me and we can compare notes. I have been stonewalled for months over mine.

There is no such thing as a 2001. 5, ALL 2001 HD2500 & 3500 should have rear disc brakes as any of the Daimler/Chrysler literature verifies. Since you have rear drums you might want to contact your dealer and certainly the FTC as suggested

You are not dumb, just misinformed like many of us. On ALL 2001 HD 2500 & 3500 (duallies too) rear disc brakes are part of what you paid for and did not get if you have one of these trucks with drums. Read any of the advertising and/or check the Dodge web site and you will see these rear disc brakes were to be standard equipment on these trucks. The FTC's toll free # is 1-877-382-4357

There was also no ETH in early 2001 either was there? I think you might be overeacting a little here, as there seems to be clearly some things that came later in 2001. Isn't the HD the cab and chassis truck anyways, maybe they have different standard options?? Just wondering

My "early 2001" has the drums. I wonder if DC will use the "specifications subject to change without notice" declaration to get around it. When I ordered mine, I was told it would have rear disk, just as the literature stated.

The 2000 model year truck only ran for a few months, then in Jan. of 2000 they came out with the 2001 model with the ETH motor. The 2001 model truck has ran since then. In July of 2000 the truck production line changed to what we all refer to as the 01. 5 model. read your brochure and the disclaimer clearly states that the vehicles are subject to change witout notice... ... . Pete

When I ordered mine in Feb, 2000, I knew it would be a 2001 model. At that time, there was no 2001 literature and no option for rear discs. There was no indication that rear discs were coming. I would have waited for the true '01 if I'd have known rear discs were coming. Basically, mine is a 2000 that's called a 2001. I've just accepted it as a change for 2001. 5 even though they don't officially call them 2001. 5. Just think of all the fun I'd be missing out on if I didn't get to adjust my rear brakes at each oil change! #ad

By the way, the ETH was available on the early 2001s, so there are ETH trucks with rear drums.

I have a 2001, clearly an ETH/DEE with rear drum brakes. I knew that it should have rear disc brakes according to the ads and the literature. I brought this up to the dealer and they shrugged their shoulders saying 'that's just how they sent us this truck. You still wanna buy it?' So I used that to get them down another 1000 dollars on the final negotiated price.

I knew it was going to have drum brakes, and I know that discs have more stopping power. In my old '68 3-on-the-tree Dodge D-100 with power nothing and Fred Flintstone brakes, I somehow managed to get it stopped without a collision over 10 years of driving it. I will likely do the same with my ETH/DEE. If you agreed in the purchase contract that the truck was going to have discs, then they owe you discs or money. But when buying a truck you need to go over every detail and make sure it is the truck you want or the truck you ordered, because NO ONE IS LOOKING OUT FOR YOUR INTERESTS AT ANY DEALERSHIP OTHER THAN YOU. We all know that.

I ordered my 2001 knowing that it was going to have drums. I knew that the disc's were coming but they were going to leave of other items as well. I chose the drums and have nothing against them.

The 2001. 5's that have the disc brakes do NOT have the rubber molding on the side of the bed, and don't have the rubber molding on the bottom of the tailgate. That seems to be the spotting feature for 01. 5's.

Well, my 01 has rear drums, the tailgate trim, and no rubber moulding on the bed.

They don't have dimming mirrors on the visors and a couple of other things as well. Come to think of it, I've never used the dimming feature anyway.

IMHO DC sold 2000 model trucks as 2001 models for the first few months of the model year. Yes, all 2001 brochures refer to the 2001 as having rear disk brakes. When I bought my truck there were a mix of 2001 trucks with and without the rear disk brakes.

What I was more concerned about was the H. P. and Torque increase on the 2001 Automatics. Do the “early 2001” without the rear disk brakes have the extra H. P. ? The sticker says it does, but I doubt they do. I could never get anyone at DC who could answer this, so, I bought the disk brake model to be sure I was getting the latest product.

Because of EPA regulations, DC was forced to release the 2001 model early. Consequently, the early 2001 models are just 2000's. They didn't make any changes until after they retooled in July or sometime around then. The reason has nothing to do with the trucks. EPA wanted a lower average emissions number in 2001 for trucks. DC's response was the PT Cruiser. The EPA sees it as a truck and that lowers average emissions for the truck fleet.
