Rear drive shaft carrier bearing trashed on LWB 2500 QC, anyone else seen this?

After less than 600 miles on the new truck, I heard alot of strange noises (ref previous posts on 6 speed noises). I looked under the truck and found that the carrier bearing on the rear drive shaft was destroyed, allowing the drive shart to wallow around in the bearing bracket. Took it to the dealer (Broadway Dodge) last night. They called me today and said they are going to replace the entire drive shaft, carrier bearing, and transfer case rear seal, and will have it done tomarrow. I am very pleased with their response to my problem.



Has anyone else had this problem? A number of TDR members commented that they have alot of transmission noise when towing loads over the hills. I wonder if some of those cases may be the same problem I had.

On a old Dodge I sold, the carrier bearing went out, but before it did I swear the transmission was the culprit, but after replacing the carrier bearing all was well. Just my . 02

Good Grief !!! It looks like that bearing superheated and melted the heavy rubber mount completely !! It musta been bone dry and seized up to do that. These bearings are prone to early wearout but I've never seen one like that.

Make sure they check your pinion angle (I think thats what its called) at the diff. to keep D-shaft angle within spec. and that will help you get max life outta that bearing.
