Just got back in town and ready to install my rear seal and crankshaft wear sleeve. I got the part from a Cummins dealer. Its part #3926126. The instructions that came with the seal say to leave the rear seal/wear sleeve intact when installing. It came as one unit. I was going to put the wear sleeve in the oven to let it expand to make the installation easier but with the instructions that came with it I'm not so sure unless I put the whole seal in the oven and I'm not sure thats a good idea. The instructions also say to use an install tool which I don't have.
Anyone have an Idea where I can get this tool and what its called. In talking to Dodge they have the seal without the wear sleeve for just about the same money that I paid for the seal and wear sleeve from Cummins. Dodge wants over $300 just for the wear sleeve.
I also have a concern that the seal I have from Cummins is the right one. They checked the # twice and said it was the right one per my engine #.
It looks a little different from the one I'm taking about.
Dodge gave me a quote for $159. 00 for the wear sleeve. That's better then $300 that they initially said but still way more then I paid for the seal and sleeve from Cummins. I'm still wondering about this install tool that the Cummins directions say I need to install the seal. I know that the last time I bought the front seal it came with an install tool of sorts. I believe it was a plastic piece but I'm not sure. That's been awhile ago. Anyone have an Idea about this install tool that Cummins is talking about?
Thanks
Mike
