I want to rebuild the driver side power seat in my 1996. By "rebuild" I mean replace the motive parts that make it move. The switch is OK. The seat still sort of moves, but fitfully. It'll move backward. But moving it forward requires that I get out and help it by pushing on the seat while the motor struggles. Up and down functions are intermittent.

The frame is OK. The track seems OK, needing cleaning and lube. There's no rust.

Looking at the Geno's catalog and the TSM, it looks like I may need two up-down motors and one fore-aft motor. Will I need the the fore-aft gear set also?

Has anyone done this that can report on it? Thanks.

In 2021 my seat was binding in directions. After searching for replacement motors, I took a chance on a used refurbished working bottom seat frame with motors and the control intact from a ebay seller. To be honest I never got back to diagnosing the motors and gears, just swapped out the whole unit and installed new Geno's seat cushions. If you want the old frame I remove and the motors, etc to try and piece together a working seat, your welcome to it.

I had never thought of changing out the entire bottom seat frame. I need to do some wrench work before I make that decision.

I replaced the front back motor on my 2001 with the one Geno's sells. IIRC, only a single motor and it went fine and no more issues. Easy job. While I had it apart new Geno's seat foam and new Geno's seat fabric.
