Oil leak on my new 3500?

So about two weeks ago my DPF 100% full message came on followed shortly by MIL light. I drive 7.5 miles to work each day and 3 days prior had two 25 mile interstate runs...so filter should not have been full. Light stayed on for about 10 miles in town and I went by dealer b/c I was leaving town and wanted to get it checked. They pulled 3 codes all related to full DPF and said to drive it. So I did, I left the dealer and went on a 90 mile highway drive, averaging 50+ mph. The message continued to show and stayed at 100% DPF full for 75 miles...then finally went down, 90, 80, 70% and then the message stopped. MIL stayed on for a few more trips and then went away. I had another two 90 mile drives a few days later and a few days after that towed my 8K trailer about 90 miles, all were 50 mph average or more drives. No issues since then.

I find it concerning that the dpf showed full in the first place based on my driving, though it has happened a few times previously in the 22K and 14 months I have had truck. That said, I have never had the message stay on for more than a few miles at highway speeds...this time it was on for more than an hour...about 75 miles at highway speeds. I welcome thoughts on cause or any remedial actions that may be needed.

Check your oil (see if the oil level has risen). And if it's not too inconvenient or expensive, get an oil analysis. If it was actively regenerating for a full hour and on and off actively regenerating even when the DPF wasn't 100% full, there is a slight risk of fuel dilution of your crankcase oil. Just take a looksie.

Mine started doing this about a month ago. I drive the truck 5 days a week to work. The drive is 110 miles each way at 75-80 mph. The 100% full and mil light come on almost every morning and stay on for a good hour then turn off saying regen complete at 70% full. Now, how can it be complete if it's still 70% full? Why does this happen daily after driving 110 miles at 75-80 mph?

My oil level is perfect and does not smell like fuel.

The only answer I can give to solve your current and future problems, put a match to it and walk away. Something I should have done a long time ago.

All the harness connections (electronic) on the entire exhaust system take a beating ,Heat, vibrations, water, cold, chemicals, etc. many of the problems can be resolved by Dia-electric grease on ALL connections. if 1 connection/sensor communication is interrupted for even a micro second it throws the system for a loop and triggers codes and messages.

My truck just did this for the second time in three months after not doing it for two years and around 20,000 miles, but after having the Cat recall done. Both times were within 50 miles of driving 180 miles at 70-75. Both times it said Regen complete after 70%. I'd also like to know why it decided 69% full was OK.

Yeah, I don't like the 70% threshold for DPF active regen cleaning either. But that seems to be the programming consistent across all Cummins/Ram platforms.

Seems like if it is hot enough to clean to 70%, might as well take it to 30%-40% so you don't see the message so quick again.

Unless 70% soot load helps the passive regen because it helps hold heat?

Mine did this two months ago. The mechanic that does all the diesel work at the dealership said there is a software upgrade. He did the software and no more problem. Mine would say "Full" and go into regen start the countdown and then finish. Did it three times in two days. I
The software update seems to have solved the problem.

I have not had the issue since my original post...maybe I got the flash during a dealer service, would have to look back at the paperwork to see. I love the truck!
