To remove injectors, I first need to remove the ceramic tube that the injectors attach to at the head. Do I need to remove the lines from the brackets holding them in place, or can I just pry them back a little? I know they are extreme high pressure and I don't want to kink them at all.

p. s. how much pressure are we talking in those lines when running anyway?

Last time I took mine off I started at the head. Loosen there them move to the VP44. As far as the hold downs I removed only what I needed to get them off. The hold downs with the blue pieces I left alone. I think I removed 3 or 4 hold downs and mine came right off. Should be the ones that bolt directly to the intake manifold. I have yet to see fuel spraying everywhere just loosen the connection at the head slowly to relieve any pressure there. Not sure if the pressure in the lines is the same but my injectors pop at 4500psi.

WyBoy,

The injector lines will come off in two sets of three. Loosen all lines at injector tubes, loosen the 3 lines on the injection pump closest to fender, remove necessary hold downs by removing bolts from the intake manifold that hold clamps on, not the clamps themselves. On the back of the manifold I found it easier to remove the one clamp instead of the bracket. Remove the first set of three lines, then loosen the back 3 on the injection pump and remove that set of 3. Takes a little wiggling but is much easier and quicker.

Those back two injector lines at the crossover tubes come off easier with a short 19mm open end.

Godspeed,
Trent

theoretically, if you have just a straight stream of fuel (e. g. a bad or burned injector), you could punch a hole in your piston head with that 4500 psi, couldn't you?

WyBoy,

When you take the crossover tubes out be VERY careful about prying on them!!! I take a flat screwdriver with a very good tip and CAREFULLY put the tip into the "threads" on the crossover tube and pry against the head. They are held in with an o-ring and it takes a good deal of pressure to pop them loose. I would not recommend using needle nose pliers! Check the o-ring carefully for nicks, cuts, flat spots, etc. If in doubt, replace the o-rings.

Do not worry about the pressure in the lines. As soon as you crack the first nut loose the pressure bleeds off harmlessly. The real danger is when the injection pump is shooting fuel through the lines.

Godspeed,
Trent
