My service manual says NOTHING about how to remove the crankshaft. Its not that obvious to me cause I have never done it before. I know you remove the bolts on the mains, but does it come out the front, or out the bottom. Either way there seem to be a gear in the way. The engine is out and everything is out of it but the crank.

Thanks

Dennis

Having not had a Cummins apart before I am just going by every other engine I've ever had apart and after you take the main caps off you lift the crank up out of the block.

You have to have the front gear case off. The rear seal retainer & seal must be removed too. It weighs about 120 lb. I remove it with a nylon strap and an engine hoist.
