Hello everyone,I have a dilemma. When I waxed my truck about a month ago I accidentally got some of the wax onto the black plastic parts such as the tailgate escetchon, door handles, mirrors, etc. . Is there a simple way to remove this dried wax from these parts? It looks crappy #ad
!!!Has anyone had this problem?I know now to be careful when waxing close to these areas. Any hints or solutions??
Thanks

the wax can be removed from the pourous suface of the plastic with a car cleaner from a paint and body supply store. Depending on the brand, it would be called "Final Prep" or "Pre-Clean-o". It is colorless, smells similar to paint thinner, (but wont harm your paint!),... apply to a terry-cloth towel and rub... the wax will come out fast and easy! Just remember: removing wax and oils from the surface of your car is what this product is meant to do... so the spot you accidentally rubbed next to the trim piece now is bare of wax! This stuff is used by auto painters just before they shoot... it removes the last little bits of wax, oil, silicone, WD-40, whatever... Good Luck!

To keep this from happening, I apply "Armour-All" or "Son-of-a-gun" or any other similar products to the black plastic parts before I wax. The wax doesn't stick after this. Beside that, it makes the black plastic look good.

Barracuda,
Had the same problem, so I went out and bought a bottle of stuff that's supposed to bring the black back in bumpers, trim, and what-not. Didn't work near as good as saturating a rag with STP's tire cleaner and rubbing it into the plastic - traces of wax have disappeared on my truck. Good luck!

Easiest way I've found is one of those small, brass bristle "tooth brushes" Once the wax turns white, the brass brush takes it out with very little effort, and doesn't bother the black part.

I've found that Black Magic works well also.

Use paste Black Shoe Polish. you don't have to worry about it staining the truck (maybe a white truck?), it wipes right off. It's wax. (Sep Trailer Life) I jsut tried it and it works great on my red truck. Don't know yet if if it'll endure.

Thanks to all that replied to my question. I will try maybe today to clean these black pieces. didn`t know there were so many ways to do this! All your help is appreciated greatly #ad
!This is the greatest website! My membership has already paid for itself!Don`t know where else I can find this much info. on my truck. It sure ain`t the dealer thats for sure.

I've had good luck with "Tire wax" by turtle wax. I put it on with an old sponge, after cleaning and drying the tires/ black parts.
It stays shiney a few weeks as long as it gets a day or two to dry before it gets wet. A regular toothbrush and water will remove wax from the black trim. Try to do this before it has a chance to harden. I don't like to use degreaser/dewaxer on the trim.

3M masking tape around the handles, trim, etc. works good for me. But it's time consuming...
And if I do get wax on there, Final prep like the body shops use, will get it off. I know, they're the ones I went crying to the first time I waxed my Dodge, then freaked at the white streaks on the black !

Howdy again.
wanted to say thanks again for the excellent ideas on this thread. All sorts of options here. I`ve been keeping up on most of the action here on TDR web when I can.

Thanks folks #ad
