My throw out bearing is screaming and I am about to take a long trip so while I am there should I replace the clutch?Which clutch should I use, I want just OEM quality. Also, do I have to do anything to the flywheel? My truck is a 1996 five speed with 300,00 miles on it. Thank you.

Anytime I separate a manual trans from an engine I replace clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and pilot bearing and resurface/replace flywheel. Unless the components were just replaced and I'm replacing rear crank seal, which you might want to replace as well.

He is right. Is the 300,000 the same clutch? If it is you done good. A couple years ago at 132,000 I replaced mine With stock, as I was on a trip. They resurfaced my flywheel and replaced all other parts new. I wished after I got it back and drove it some that I should have replaced the fly wheel to. the resurface changed the pressure point some ( maybe it was just me). And when your used to a certain point it is hard to get used to it again. Also replace the hydraulic clutch assembly. When there do it all.

A Southbend clutch assy will cost less than an OEM from the dealer and be higher quality. For sure don't go with a cheap clutch from a chain auto parts store. Give Peter a call there and he will recommend the best choice for your application. 800-988-4345 There is a special way to resurface the flywheel, it has been addressed in previous threads. Search is your friend or you could ask Peter. If the rear main seal isn't leaking my opinion is don't mess with it.

Thank you, I will look to see if the rear seal is leaking. Skip

I highly recommend SBC, they stand behind their products and have been known to go above and beyond what's fair. You don't have to get a high performance clutch, but the quality will be better than OEM, with a standard clutch kit.

I agree SBC. Don't waste the time to resurface flywheel. The rear main seal and the other gasket (u shaped) are only about 25.00 and are simple to replace.

GCroyle, I don't want to put words in jw3500Ram's mouth, but I think he is recommending replacement of the flywheel?

I think all SBC clutches come with a flywheel anyhow. Call TST products they can help you. I just ordered a clutch from them and I received it in 2 days.

It's part of the SBC clutch Kit, but you can buy the individual components, but the kits are the better option. Call Peter at SBC and get the nearest vendor that sells them, you'll be surprised how close the kits are, with no need of Internet orders.
