The radiator fan for my 98 12V 5 speed 2wd is no longer available from Chrysler. It has developed a few small cracks. Would like to replace before it becomes a major problem. Who is a good source?

Have you tried Flex-a-Lite? There is alway used as well. Change it ASAP before if flies apart and takes out your rad. David

The problem with Flex-a-Lite fans is they flatten out and move less air (and, thus, consume less parasitic HP) at high RPM - great for drag racing, but exactly the opposite of what a diesel engine needs when pulling a trailer up a steep grade when it needs all the airflow over the cooling pack that it can get.

Horton fans may be your answer. You will need all measurements including pilot. These are plastic BUT won't flatten as they are built for Class 5 - 8 trucks, industrial equipment, etc.

I think you would want the Windmaster Plastic MS8 and HS8 series. Second group down. Once you have all of your measurements the part number is created using the matrix at the bottom.... I would also recommend a call to Horton tech once you have all information at hand and see if they agree with the choice you have made. I will be happy to check stock and provide approximate pricing for you.
You don't want to get too aggressive and overload the viscous fan clutch. I can't remember the rotation on the Ram 2nd gen, it may the less popular in choices...

If I get time I will pop the hood on mine today and do a little research...

The truck is more of a work truck but I don'r want to limit my self either so the appropriate fan is what I should have. mwilson thanks and thanks if you look things up.

OP,

I lost a blade last summer on my '92 and was quite surprised that the dealership in Casper, WY had one on the shelf. It was an updated version that was for 2nd gen 12v. http://www.fremontchryslerdodgejeepcasper.com/parts/index.htm

mwilson,

Do you think Horton makes a fan for my '92?? I would like to have the whole kit with the EC-450 fan drive, but they are extremely expensive!! If it ever happens again, I would like to have a better set of blades mounted to the stock fan drive that can be found nearly anywhere.

I'd look for a used one on eBay, there are a couple of vendors that part out these trucks and sell lots of parts. They don't sell junk and will back up their used parts too. The Horton is a nice set up but it's a few hundred bucks, you should be able to get a used replacement for about $60.

For now, if you are driving on the highway and not towing too heavy (near max GCVW), you can run without a fan. I've done it for a few summers and the only time I had a problem was in bumper to bumper in Chicago after about 20 minutes.

The Horton fan for the electrical pkg went belly up years ago. I just used a clutch and fan from a 24v when my Horton contacted the radiator

I used to run "FANLESS" with my old (* but got caught a couple times with that rare warm spring day.

If you can send me a link to a factory fan in decent shape for $60 I will buy it in a heart beat! They are going for big bucks since there is no other real option.
