HO Cummins heard the announcer rambling about a pull-off, once I heard him, I radioed up and explained, we weren't doing any pull-offs. The announcer was not at the drivers meeting.
Jerry explained about the hydraulic system on the spikes. They originally came out at the same speed, for everyone. This was a HUGE advantage for the faster trucks.
They changed it to let them drop faster if you were going faster, this is why the top 5-10 are so close.
The way I understand it though, is they start coming out the same for everyone. However, don't expect the sled to be in the exact start posistion everytime, it will flucuate a couple feet. The laser man zeros it out, there isn't a perfect start posistion. Thats why at the big end it looked like Van was 3 feet in front of Kent, but in reality, it was onely one.
You guys are more than welcome to talk to the sled operators before or after a pull. Understanding how each sled works can only help you pull better, and I'm sure it will make more sense coming from the owners, than listening to my interpetation!
If you came out harder and lost footage, I would expect it was from over spinning the tires, I saw that alot.
