Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Return Line Replacement ?

The rubber part of my return line is leaking. I am thinking of replaceing it with Dayco GenII fuel hose and clamps from the steel line below the compression "T" to the steel line that runs along the frame. My questions are,has anybody gone this route and what is the diameter of those steel return lines so I can get the right I. D. hose? Thanks,Gary
