I purchased my first Dodge RAM Cummins equipped truck in 1999.

Since that first Diesel pickup, I owned a 2002 2500, 2004 2500, 2008 3500 SRW, 2013 3500 DRW, and a 2014 3500 DRW.

I sold my Lance Camper and 2014 RAM for lack of use. I have a Jeep Wrangler, 12' utility trailer and thought I no longer needed a pickup truck. That thought lasted about one month!

I found a real nice looking 2001 2500 5 spd, LWB, perfect leather interior, near perfect body, and just all around clean truck with 256,000 miles. All it needs is an engine. The current engine cranked right up and I loaded it on my trailer to transport home. Engine ran rough. Very rough. Oil pressure was good. It spun both tires loading on my trailer.

Upon inspection, just above the starter motor was a fist sized hole in the block. Upon removal of the oil pan, I found one cam lobe, one mangled rod, and rod cap.

Well, I got the truck what I consider cheap. Used car dealership knew the engine was bad but said they did not know diesel's well enough to diagnose - LOL!

I found a very clean engine at St. James Auto Salvage in St. James, MO that came out of a 2001 RAM with 149,000 miles and a 90 day warranty. The 2001 RAM was T-boned at the passenger door.

I have everything loose and ready to pull the old engine and start the process of swapping in the "new" engine. Saturday will be a good day. I have a good friend that is the shop manager/mechanic for our local school district. He works on Cummins, International, and Caterpillar diesels every day. My Blue Bird bus has a Cummins 6.7. He has been a great help in taking things apart and will adjust the valves etc. as we go back together.

Looking forward to getting on the road with my 2001 Dodge RAM - NO expensive pollution components that cost a fortune to replace and hopefully better fuel mileage than the 2014 that could get 17 mpg on a good day. I may miss that 365 Horsepower but there is always the opportunity to make more with the 5.9.

BTW - I still have a set of 19.5" Rickson Eliminator wheels that were on the 2004 and 2008. They will look good on the 2001. I will post pictures once I get it all together and on the road again.
