Hey guys,

Made a short trip to the home store. Long enough to fully warm the engine and no shifting problems going or coming. Started to back into the driveway as usual. At idle speed I have always been able to slide right into my spot no problems, very slight uphill grade. Today however she kind of shuddered and needed a bit of fuel to go backward. Felt like something is slipping. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jim

My fault. Should have stated that I drove to a flat spot and checked the fluid right away. Center of the hash marks, no odor or discoloration.

Thanks,

Jim

How many miles since last adjustment? May be all it needs.

you need to adjust the rear band.

Drop the pan, loosen lock nut, turn center screw in snug and back it it out 3 turns. Snug lock nut.

I will try to adjust the band. It has been a couple years since I changed the fluid and filter and adjusted the bands. I never tow any more so I can go a long while between changes. Won't get to this till Thursday probaly but I will let you now how we make out.

Thanks all.

Drained the fluid to adjust the rear band and found this stuff in the pan

Looks like friction material of some sort; clutch pack I guess. Crumbly and smells burnt. Can imagine the TC clutch material would get all the way back to the pan in pieces that big.

Anyway, where am I now? Whole new transmission or repair of some sort?

Thanks.

looks like the material from the band, when its gone your metal to metal. time to pull it apart before its not a good core to work with.
