Change L35 20 BR/YL (8W-50-9) Pin 87 and Pin 85 wires (or S183 in PDC) of Fog Lamp Relay to chassis ground.

Change L3 18 RD/OR (8W-50-9) Pin 86 wire of Fog Lamp Relay to Joint Connector #8 (8W-80-48), CAV 17 (if you do NOT have heated seats); fused ignition switch output (run).

Use second relay in combination with parking brake switch to turn off fog lights when ignition is on.

The fog lamp indicator will let you know when DRL is working.

re: 2001 ETH/DEE and service manual supplement.

The DC service manual is the best purchase I've made for the vehicle. The wiring schematics are complete; except for horn and driver's door ajar. Call DC and see if they will sell you the supplement separately.

You'll have to be willing to take apart your PDC (power distribution center) located in the engine compartment to make the changes.

Sincere question here -

Why would you want to do this? Just wondering. I don't like daytime running lights but curious as to why y'all want them.

I'm in Canada a lot where they are required on local vehicles, and we have a 80 mile 2-lane "highway" from Bangor to Calais, Maine where the average speed in each direction seems to be about 70. I like to be seen by the oncoming trucks traveling toward me at a combined speed of 140 mph. Just my thoughts on it.

I have to agree with KatDeisel on this one. This is only my oppinion so dont get mad, head lights are best used in the dark,if they cant see ya with your lights off in broad daylight should they really own a drivers licence??

Somewhere I thought I read that the DRL function is already in our trucks it just needs to be switched on. ( they will have to pry my cold dead hands off that switch to turn mine on. ) #ad
You might look in the owners manual,I think that's where I read it.

Actually there is truth to the concept of higher visibility by other drivers when your vehicle has Daytime Running Lights.

IMHO, I imagine some find it a bit less macho than using a massive brush guard to protect ones self from oncoming lunatics, but clearly the lightbulbs can save on the paintjob.

There was a great tv adv. in the last few years that showed a vehicle coming towards the camera both with and without DRLs. That simple adv. was enough to sell me on the idea.

After nearly getting killed by someone a few weeks ago outside Great Falls MT, I spent the rest of my vacation driving with my headlights on.

For your info:

Studies have shown that driving with headlights during daylight hours will reduce
your chances of being involved in an accident. These studies have been
conducted in the United States, Canada, Sweden, Norway, and England. In all
cases, the studies have shown a positive reduction in daytime accidents of up to
38%. In addition, the U. S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has conducted its own preliminary studies that indicate a 20% reduction in daytime accidents. It is
estimated that up to 45% of all accidents occur because of perception and
recognition errors.

Me? I think DRL should be included from factory as standard (they will be soon, count on it). I value my life above the cost of some light bulbs. A good DRL system should run lights on reduced voltage to reduce glare and extend bulb life, and should be interlocked so only on when engine is running and the parking brake is off. As the Ram does not include this feature, I will be adding it somehow when I get my truck. That's my opinion.

<font color=blue>Ya I know they are supposed to be safe but I just don't like them is all. The railroads gotta have them on during the day too but that don't stop cars from running in front of trains still #ad

Seriously thank you for answering honestly and not flaming me, as I was genuinly curious on the subject. I suppose its all just a matter of personal preference.

It's interesting that, during WWII, the way they found to camoflage a flying airplane during the day was with a bunch of really bright lights - seems that it was the silhouette that gave the airplane away to the enemy, and the lights made it blend in better. The USAF is looking at this concept again for the newest generation of fighters.

I usually drive with my lights on in the day, too, but every once in a while, this comes back to me...
