@Axel , Glad to help. I was leery about how well it was going to work after reading it, but figured since it was TDR article, was worth the try. I installed the drain plug in pan for future drains and to add temp sensor in pan. Print out the directions and put in a repair binder for your truck for future reference. Enjoy these trucks!

Reading that article, was putting it in N needed for yours? I thought the 68RFE pumped in P.

I have to do my gasser soon, same but little smaller is my thinking similar process for 66rfe is what I'm thinking.

After all these years why no factory drain plug on these things besides $$$ savings of course.

The article is kinda of a mix of the old 47RE article done on a 68RFE. It's pretty much how I do my 47RE that only pumps N.

Glad it worked out.

Did my first 68RFE trans fluid and filters at 40K, what a mess. Ordered the Dorman pan with a drain and got it the next day from Amazon. Did the second fluid / filters change today at 81K, what a breeze with a drain. 9 quarts of SuperTech ATF+4. Drained fluid looked great, almost hated to dispose of it. Also drained and refilled transfer case with the ATF+4.

I'm in the middle of this job. I ordered the Dorman 265-870 pan with the drain. I used the Baldwin 20000 filter kit for the 68 RFE. Trying just now to put the pan up and something isn't right, it acts as tho to pan is hitting on the tube coming down from the flat filter. According to Amazon, the Dorman pan and Baldwin filter kit ought to be correct. What am I missing here ? Thanks.

Good thought on me trying to use an extra seal up in that tube, but that wasn't the problem. Good thought, too, on using Mopar. I used Baldwin filters for the 36 years I owned a shrimp boat, the second was a twin engine. I've spun on enough Baldwin oil and fuel filters to have developed faith in the brand. Amazoom said the kit would fit, it didn't, my fault for not looking closely. The old flat filter dropped into the catch pan when it came off. Lesson learned, again. I do have a pan with a drain now. Working upside down is almost as fun as working in a cramped engine room after a day of running the two hummin Cummins.
