Towing my 5th wheel, brake questions???

Well here I was today ready to pick up my new 2015 Laramie 3500 6.7 385hp 865fptq, Aisin transmission, Auto Level, 5th wheel prep SRW SB. All excited like a Dad with the arrival of a newborn.

I went to my Dodge dealer and they said "We have a problem" and proceeded to tell me.

The truck I bought was found at another dealer 900 miles away. My dealer sent them a purchase order for the truck. I put a deposit down and signed the commitment to buy papers. Done deal!

Except......

The owner of the other dealership decided on the weekend to sell the truck to one of his buddies. Sold it out from under me and didn't tell my dealership. What an a--hole!!!. I'm livid. My sales manager is upset that this could even happen.

They can't find another one in Canada like it with tan leather interior. Lots of black interior ones. I don't want no stinking black interior. The truck I'm turning in has black leather.
They found one without a sliding roof. I want a sliding roof.
They found the same truck in a Longhorm trim but I don't want to spend another $7000.

I can order a new one. I don't want to wait 10 weeks.

They have the 3500 Laramie 370 hp 800fptq one with 68RFE Trans, less hp and less tq than I wanted but has Tan leather, sliding roof. It doesn't have auto level. That's not what I wanted.
But, it's the one I test drove for a week and the reason I wanted to buy the Laramie truck I thought I was getting.

Would I be settling if I accepted this lesser model? (Lesser Ha! Still a beautiful truck)
Am I silly for wanting the 385hp and Aisin and Auto level?
Will I be happy towing my 15900lb 5th wheel?

I could always add air bags.

What a dilemma! I'm back to square one.

HELP ME COME TO SOME SENSE OF RESOLVE......PLEASE! I need to stop the insanity!

(I probably jinxed myself by prematurely adding the truck into my signature)

Welp, it's not too hard writing a check for something ya want. But it hurts to write checks for something ya don't want.

In the past, I've kept my trucks for 10+ plus years. So, it doesn't have to be the best truck in the world, it just has to be the right truck.

Not trying to be a weight nazi, but why are you looking for the smallest possible 3500 pickup to pull a monster trailer?? Your trailer needs a DRW to keep you and everyone else one the road safe.

The question still remains....Am I wanting more truck than I need?

I could have the loaded Laramie 3500 with the 370hp 800fp torque and 68RFE tomorrow. Tan interior, sun roof. Like I said, I can add air bags and 5th wheel wiring but the hitch rails will need to remain when I'm not towing other than the 5 weeks a year I need to.

You can install the factory bed pucks yourself, I did Monday to my new Laramie.
Here are the part numbers.
Pucks 82213665AB
Wiring 82212195AB

That sucks, what happen. We flew from NW Washington to Colorado and drove our new Laramie home 1384 miles last week. We learned a lot able the truck in 48 hours.

If they can build a 2016 to your specs at the same price, I would do that. Snoking

I wouldn't settle for something you really don't want. I did once and regretted it shortly after. It's kind of like the rebound girl after a breakup. It's fun and exciting at first, but not what you want it the long run.

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately snoking, the truck has to be white under my agreement for work to pay for it. Also, with the low CAD, that truck link you sent, puts the purchase price in Canadian dollars at $91,939.

My .02 for what it's worth. I think you can easily get by without the auto level. Air bags cost about 1/3 of the factory system and in my mind, offer more versatility with less to go wrong. My previous truck was a 2012 with the 800/68RFE and what you're towing you'll be fine without the Aisin as well. Yes, the Aisin is nice, but not absolutely necessary. As far as the 5th wheel hitch, get a B & W system and you won't have any rails in the bed. If 'work' is paying for it, go with the one you've been test driving.

Make the dealer lease you a truck free until your truck arrives. They have ways of doing these and not losing money. (Loaner) Consider your deposit the lease agreement. Put some hard miles on their truck and suck it up. It sounds like it's not their fault but, not yours either. If they want your business they will do something similar to make you happy. If not, I would definitely go somewhere else and order another.

Thanks all for opinions thus far. I still have my 2013 Ford F-150 Platinum. Just can't tow my 5er we just bought with it.

Will a 370/800 Cummins/68RFE pull a 15,800 lb 5th wheel? Well, I'm towing a 19,000 lb GVWR 5th wheel with our poor ole 350/650 early 2011 Cummins, and it does just fine (we're probably running about 17,800 lbs or so GVW on a typical trip as we're not full-timers). The only thing that would bother me is that I attribute a lot of the acceptable performance of our truck in towing our 5th wheel to the 4.10 axle - you're going to be limited to a 3.42 in your SRW 3500. Even with that, I'm sure that a 370/800 truck could handle a 15,800 lb 5th wheel without any problems. Now, if we were talking about a 23K GVWR 5th wheel, that's a different story!

Yeah, but the lower first and second gears of the Aisin come into play when towing heavy. Cummins12V98 towed heavy with a 68RFE and 3.42 gears and getting it rolling was his only concern. The Aisin helps with that.

Please see the highlighted sentence above. That's the question I responded to.

Dogpatch, in all honesty..... your problem is with the dealer where you signed papers. Their supplier problems really aren't your issue, except from the standpoint that they're apparently no longer able to deliver what they contracted for. The supplier never had any obligation to you, just to the dealer who issued the purchase order.

Unfortunately, I'm also willing to bet that the dealer who sold the truck out from under your dealer probably just doesn't care. If the purchase order was accepted, it SHOULD be a binding contract. I'd also suspect that there's some weasel language in it to release them from obligations.

Looks like you got "outbid" at the dealer that had the truck. Dealer trades are just that and subject to the other dealer saying "No." Maybe your dealer didn't offer a very good trade for it. Hard to say.

I second the loaner and order what you want idea.

I wouldn't compromise on the transmission - get the best one esp. with the other one having the power turned down so it will live.
