On a side note, you can take the black plastic wrap off by sliding it up to the steering wheel. It is a T slot deal and easy to get back on. Just gives one a little bit more room to work with the wires.

After getting the painless wire kit in, I proceeded to get the pod painted the same color as my interior - glad I did, just looks that much better.

As for the fuel pressure line - I ran it the same place as the boost line and other wires. Make sure you get all the connections TIGHT - you don't want to have any leaks coming in to the cab.

Of the whole project - each had it's tough points, but after the whole project, it was easier than I thought. Just took longer than I planned on.

Just a precaution - take a paper towel and wrap it around the fuel pressure line to see if there any leaks.

The test drive was fun - the pressure was 14. 5 at idle and just nornal driving, it was 13-13. 5 - WOT it was down to 8. So, I guess I'm fine for now - hopefully the pressure won't go down any and I'll be one of the lucky ones that has a good lift pump... yeah, right.

Next project - Northwest custom mud flaps...

excellent thread

good pics

when I tapped into the dimmer wire I just tapped to the right fuse in the fuse box

either way works

more than one way to skin a cat

those isspro gauges are nice arent they

back lighting is excellent

I believe Rod does make something for the 03 called a "WEDGEY"

havent seen any pictures

but I would call Rod @ wildcat diesel and ask about getting a wedgey

be carefull, you may get what you ask for:D LOL

Shu777: You are commended for all of the detail provided in your gauge install. Thank you very much. It kind of looks like Rods dash pod could also be used at the bootom edge of the dash on the knee bolster in the center under climate controls and radio on a 96 model. I think I'll give Wildcat a call and see if I can get some more pics of there pod line. I emailed them yesterday and havent heard anything back yet. I am really grateful for you taking the time to post the pics. Very nice installation.

The way this thread is going I think some great examples of everyones installations could be compiled into one thread. It sure would beat having to search through all of the threads that result from a search.

I am paying close attention and appreciate all suggestions an pics.

Thanks Again

Don

I recently emailed Rod at Wildcat about a Rods Pod for the '03 and up-dash. He said they were working on it, but have nothing yet. I told him to hurry up, since I'm 1 gauge away from running out of room in my existing mounts!

Great write-up. .

You might consider getting some blue or green bulb covers for the gauges.

I used green but blue would match the oem gauges better.

Excellent write up..... I'm doing that very install with DiPricoll's for an '01 very soon and will have this copied and used as a reference!

Great Job!

Very good article! I have a question. I am about to install guages myself and was wondering if you have to drill the dash it self or just the bezel to mount the pod?

Besides cutting out the bezel, you will need to tap in 4 screws to hold it on. I went to Lowes and found some black screws that looked good enough. Like I said in the beginning, the cutting of the bezel might not be for people with weak stomachs. There isn't a day I don't regret doing this install myself. Just take your time in doing it, study and look at the parts and study more. It's really easy thing to do.

I wish they made the pod that goes above the rear view mirror for the 2nd gens. But I'm going to put my next three gauges where the center vents are. I don't use the vents since they dry out my eyes and I wear contacts. Plus I know I'll like them there. Project is started but not close to being finished yet due to funding issues.
