Did you disconnect the fan plug when you installed the sensor? Could it be unplugged? I believe that wire has a radiator temp sensor on it also.

I guess leaving it unplugged would set a code.

They may have changed software in the 06's.

Nope didn't touch the fan plug, other that wiggling it around to maneuver things in place. Did check it anyway and it is securely plugged in. Had a 200 mile run yesterday way up north LA county way, did not witness the same temp swings, curious eh! Overhead is indicating nearly a 2 mpg improvement but I'll wait for some hand calcs to confirm.

I've had the sensor in for about a month... . the mileage is about the same as before and I also changed from dino oil to Mobil 1 5w40 T&Suv about three weeks ago... still no mileage change, averaging about 18. 5 overall. that included driving tot work, around town, hauling very little and short tows with a 5th wheeler (less than 100 miles twice).

The performance increase is certainly noticeable, as the truck just seems to run better at low end.

I also think the egt is down about 50 degrees or so... . and, it seems to run smoother, I think.

For $70, it is by far the best mod I think I ever did to a vehicle... the truck has no other mods, but I have done chips, programmers, air intake kits, etc. , on other gas vehicles... . those all seemed to be a waste of money except for the turbo muffler I put on a 1967 VW Beetle (sure open her up).

I thought it had eliminated the white burst of smoke on start up (cold days), but it still shows up sometimes but less than pre-install.

I have not checked the temp gauge, or at least I had not noticed a higher temp when standing on it... I'll give it a try... . seems reasonable that changing the timing would cause something else to change... .

Had another thought... .

If my mileage is just about the same, and they have gone to the winter blend which typically drops mileage 1-2 mpg, then maybe I am getting better MPG and won't realize the true value until next spring... . make sense????

On the Temp issue. I noticed a slightly lower engine temperature while just cruizing around but a slightly higher temp when I stand on it or am towing. The gauge does defenatly move around more.

Smells different Better actually.

Low end is improved noticably. Both empty and loaded.

Don't know on milage cause I put it in and then hooked on to the RC trailer and went 700 mi round trip on a route I have not taken with the RC trailer before. Havn't run a tank thru it since that trip to compare or hand calc... ...

Only mod on the truck by the way... . Except for the rotating shift knob insert/oil change indicator replaced with a Coors Light Cap!!!

DHerzog - my experience has been Identical to yours.

Tee - I still laugh over your shift knob that is hilarious

Well, my sensor is coming off. Went from ~21mpg to ~16 on a long road trip. I am not sure what happened because when I first installed it, I saw marginal improvement. I checked to see if the sensor had moved thinking that may be a factor, and it had not. So, with a loss of 5mpg, which cannot be attributed to winter fuel, its coming off.

Also talked to a friend of mine who went from 18mpg down to 13...

How Long ago did you install it? Mine was up and is down a about 1. 5 mpg but they have switched to blended fuel in the northeast and i am sure in VA as well as most of the country. :-laf

Not good. I did adjust the timing back on mine due to some knocking using the procedure Rokktech describes. I don't know if that is worth trying or not.

Thanks for the info!

One for the '03's

Seeing as there are very few 03's posted in here: I've had it in mine for a month now - two tank fulls, and have noticed ZERO change in mileage (hand calc'd). More diesel knock, slightly more low end pep. All driving has been stop and go in traffic driving, max speed so far @55mph (yeah, I dont get out much!)

Yea, I've been waiting to hear the same thing.

Mine is an HO though.

:-{} Hi... You did not state how long it took you to go through the two tanks of fuel but depending on the duration they may have switched to winter blend. I am back down to almost where I was before the sensor gain and it is due to winter fuel blends so actually you may have gained but not know it untilwe switch back off of it :{ #@$%!

Sorry, but NO. . I am not hung up on the fuel thing. I am just letting him know that might be the reason. I have had CTD's since 97 and run Tractor trailers as an O/O for 16 years so I just thought I might offer a logical explanation as a lot of people here do nothing more with there truck than use it as a daily driver and do not go through a tank very often. :-laf

Yep, so is mine Ed.

I'm curious about that also. I live in the Seattle area, and as far as I know, they do not use winter blend here. I say that, because I'm under the impression that stations are required to post the fuel that they sell..... anyone from the west side of the Cascades here have any info to support that? I do know that once I cross over to the other side of the mountains, they say blended fuel on the tanks... . but I only go over them over xmas break.

You are correct in that we do not use winter blend on the west side of the cascades. I know this because I haul & deliver the fuel up & down the I-5 corridor. :D

Got one installed, took about 10 minutes, truck is definitely more peppy on the low end, turbo seems to spool up about 200rpm sooner (give or take) and mileage has improved by about 1. 6 (hand calc btw).

Like some others have reported, my mileage seemed to have dropped as a result of this mod. I installed the sensor about two months ago and my mileage dropped but I wasn't sure how much to attibute that to winter (colder temps, winter fuel & 4x4 use) and over about 2000 miles, I averaged 14. 9 mpg. For the last 500 miles, I readjusted the sensor to the stock position and my mileage has increased to 16. 4. Similar conditions, mostly low speed, lots of 4wd-hi, and below zero temps.

Just wait until winter sets in ;)
