Hello,

Has anyone installed the Rough Country 2.5" leveling kit on their 2016 Ram 2500? The kit seems easy to install and is certainly cheap enough but when I ask my local Off Road shop about it I'm told that I really should go for the more expensive lift kit that requires new shocks, springs and other related parts. There is a 2" difference between the front to the rear on the truck now (11" from top of tire to bottom of fender on the rear and 9" on the front). If someone has used the RC kit could you give me a heads up on whether it worked for you or.....is there a better one available to install. Thanks,

BB

How do you use your truck? What are you specifically looking for from a kit, the ability to run a larger tire or improved off-road performance? I'm currently running the RC leveling kit on a '17 and have no complaints whatsoever despite always running 6" + suspension kits on previous rigs. Everything is stock, for now at least.

Listen to your off road shop. If you're needing improved off road performance the leveling kit isn't going to do anything for you, if it's just for looks and bigger tires then maybe it's ok. You should still at least replace the front shocks with the spacer lift though. IMHO, money spent on a spacer lift is a waste regardless. If you actually use the truck off road this is not the way to go.

The truck is not used for off road, no big tires or other modifications. I do tow an equipment trailer from time to time to move my farm tractor. All I'm looking to do is get the truck to stop looking like it's going downhill when sitting still or not loaded. The 2" lift will bring the front up where it should be so with your info, I'll be ordering it soon. I'll reply in a few weeks on whether this is working out or not. Thanks for the help.

Spacer lift should be fine for that usage. Just make sure the front shocks don't top out with the lift.

I've installed both kind of kits over the years. The taller spring only kits from Carli are nice but I find them to be a bit spongy from the extra travle. Which if you are in to rough off roading you will like. I currently have just a spacer kit on my 2013 that I found on Ebay at a really low price. The spacer system kept the factory feel more or less. Funny thing is on my 2012 I bought the same kit from RAM and it was 4x the price. I would plan on adding shocks, I've got a set of Billstein's (sp?) from Geno's on order. The stock shocks work but as i've found when going over a speed bump will sometimes top out. Ether system will work. One more thing with any lift kit the caster will need to be reset. On the older 5 link front ends adding a leveling kit will add more caster a lot more as the upper controll arms are shorter thhan the bottoms. On the newer 3 link systems you will loose caster as the axel rotates down.
