I'd only run a gallon in a tank.

Strained real good, like through cloth. But first let it sit for a few weeks to settle out.

Take the last quart ar two to the recycle place.

I run a Frantz bypass oil filter on my truck - wear metals and contaminants are actually BETTER than new oil - and I fully plan to run my used oil back thru the engine in the fuel at low percentages. With diesel fuel going at well over $2. 50 a gallon, I sure don't see GIVING 3 gallons - $7. 50 worth - to a recycler!

And I'll take my chances on getting better acquainted with the Bosch dealer... ;) :D

Yep, keep it to a gallon max per tank. Let the container settle for at least a couple of weeks then don't take the last pint or so from the bottom. A'lso avoid doing this in cold weather, and when you're mostly running around town--save it for a road trip.

I ran many gallons of waste oil thru my '01 HO, no problems at all. The DD2 Injectors were nice and clean when I pulled them out after running them 50,000 miles, no deposits.

Neither is ideal, but if handled like wrote above it should be OK.

Cummins OK's it up to a certain % but I forget what that is now.

Larry, I wouldn't do ATF because of the friction modifiers. I would not do gear lube either, being it's probably got a high metallic load because of no filtration.

Patriot 5% is what comes to mind.

Nick don't you have some weeds in the yard along the fence near the alley that you'd like to get rid of?? Is #2 diesel fuel not creative enough for you guys? Some guys will put anything in their fuel tanks .

Your injection pump won't thank you, nor will your injectors. After a while, your Bosch dealer will, though.

I agree with Joe 100% What would you prefer to drink yourself? Good whiskey or cheap whiskey? Has your Cummins been treatin' you well? Then feed her the #2 rather than the sludge.

Ditto. "The odds are small but the stakes are high. "

Never could understand why somebody would want to do that - to save 7 bucks? Too lazy to dispose of properly? Cummins says it's OK?

To each his own. I'm a real live-and-let-live kinda guy. Just don't come over to the house without calling first. :)

How about running 5% diesel fuel in with your motor oil?

What the hay, diesel is cheaper than motor oil.

And while you're at it put some ATF in the fuel tank and some diesel fuel treatment in the transmission.

My feeling is a guy would have to be pretty hard up for $7. 50 to even fool with used oil in the fuel.

It isn't a matter of being hard up - and use of used (CLEAN!) motor oil is hardly anything new, it's been done for years without huge documented failures or engine damage - after all, these ARE "oil burners"!

Can't speak for others, but *I* am NOT talking about syrupy and crud-filled drainings, but quality oil that is constantly running thru a sub-micron bypass filter, and displays analysis numbers as good as NEW unused oil in most categories. Plus, I run ANOTHER frantz sub-micron filter in my FUEL system to keep THAT side as clean as possible too!

I'm not afraid to run it in my crankcase, OR in my fuel tank in low percentages, any more than the Power Service additive mixed with ashless 2-stroke oil I have BEEN using in my fuel for well over 100,000 trouble free miles...

At the risk of sounding like a know it all, I know of people that used to throw a whole oil change in one fuel tank when I was an owner operator.

That's 14 gallons of oil in a 100 gallon tank.

They did this every oil change, for years. We worked in the dirt, I sort of doubt that the oil that came out of the trucks then was as clean as out street driven, clean fueled trucks.

I personally never did it, but I cant help but to think that if it would cause some sort of catastrophic failure in what they count on for their livleyhood that maybe they wouldnt do it, but what do I know.

Throw a gallon in at a time and be done with it already... .

My exfather in law was aresearch chemist for the US Bureau of Mines, he did a project for the military to determine what they could do with waste oil. He found that it was ok to mix used motor oil in bulk diesel 10% and run everything normal.
