SouthBend DD questions?

top speed eliminator?

I live in PA where they love the use of Liquid Salt which eats away anything it is in contact with for a long period of time. For example I got black tube steps for my truck for Christmas and by the beginning of this month where the salt was caked up it ate the black paint away. . Thanks god the manufacturer is sending me new ones since there is a warranty on them… Also I had some rust on the bottom of the driver side door & now because of the winter its now along the whole bottom of the door. . So winters are very harsh on vehicles here and was wondering what type of exhaust I should be looking at and what exhaust people are running in salty areas. . As I am planning on keeping the truck for another 4yrs yet so I would like something that is going to last & not rot away…

Thanks,

I got a Stainless Steel sumit racing exhaust on mine... it still looks the same as when I installed it two years ago...

mine is an aluminized steel and it still looks good here in SALT Lake City... yes we use salt here... .

If you want to keep the exhaust a little longer, maybe use the high heat engine paint like 1200 degree paint..... that might do it for a while,... .

paint on the outside and antiseize on all the joints inside and out, and threads to help fight the corrosion. . work well. . washing the bottom often helps a great deal too. Band clamps instead of crush clamps help too

thanks

I have the magnaflow SS 4inch on my truck and this systems looks like complete junk under my truck. the only thing that isn't covered by oxidation surface rust is the tip and muffler, from what i assume is a better grade of ss? And yes in winter i am a firm believer of washin down the underside of the truck, and still gets f'd up. I thought by buyin the MORE expensive ss i was going to be ahead of the game but i guess not. .

I also have the magnaflow... It got rusty within a month, it looks like crap. I keep my truck clean. Yeah it's a lower grade stainless... a magnet sticks to it. My tip looks like new. But I paid the same for that as I would have for an aluminized system. So you either have to go really good grade stainless, and big $$ or go with a cheaper kit and replace it, I think either aluminized or lower grade stainless will last 4 years.

I'll add to my previous post, my exhaust is non-magnetic stainless... it is a Summit Racing Exhaust... I can't really say how much they cost since I got mine in the bargin pile at Summit... I paid $200 for the kit I got...

The entire exhaust is polished stainless... still looks as good as the day I put it on...
