On a sidenote.......can you provide a current RAM/Cummins approved or unapproved filter list???

I am not aware of an "approved" list of filters for any FCA products. There was a TSB many years ago concerning the filters coming apart and plugging the cooling jets. A manufacturer cannot specify you only purchase replacement filters from them. So if you look in an owners manual there will be the specific filter listed for the engine. If the filter you are using has a cross reference or application that matches the one in the owners manual you should be good.
There are many quality filters out there, but personally I have only run Mopar filters in everything I have owned. To me saving a couple of dollars isn't as important as the life of the product. I have never had an oil related failure, but there are not very many in the Cummins line even not using an OEM filters.
To me it makes sense to run what makes you happy, as long as it is obtained by a reliable source. That gets a little more difficult with online purchases, and if you look on DealerConnect, Mopar still has a means to report counterfit products, so they must be aware that there are those out there willing to take advantage of you at any cost.

The same is said for oil. Do you only run Mopar or Shell branded oil?

A Marketing dept is not the best source for accurate info.

Oil doesn't differ as much as oil filters. And there's not as many things that can go wrong with oil as opposed to filters. I only used Shell once. It was T6 that I got on sale. I'm not a real fan of 5w 40. I prefer 15w 40. I have also used amsoil, redline, Kendall D XA, Delo and even carquest to top off.

I do use Mopar DEF. Because the def system seems finicky and it is an expensive fix. The oil is less finicky and as long as I use a quality oil, I"m likely OK.

But, like I said. I'm sure donaldson and baldwin and Napa are fine. And I still have 2 WIX to use that I bought before this discussuon was posted and will use. I will buy stratapores for another 3 years until my warranty is up.
