I looked at their MDS and it contains oil, naptha, and isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol without the water)
   I was under the impression that alcohol was a big no-no with the newer injectors...

When sea foam is used in 2 stroke mix, is it considered part of the fuel ratio?

NOTE: One pint treats 8-25 gallons of gas (average one ounce per gallon) or 6-12 gallons of gas oil mix (average 2 ounces per gallon. ) Does not replace oil.

Alcohol in two strokes is a no-no. It acts as an oxygenate and effectively leans out the mixture. Also as it absorbs water it will force the oil to separate out of the mix. When I sold equipment and oxygenated gas came around I had to buy an alcohol test kit. If a two stroke seized due to this they would deny warranty.

Who says Alcohol is a no-no in two strokes? I run straight alcohol with a two cycle premix in my banshee. Yes before I shut down for the day I have to run regular fuel through it so it does not eat up the rubber lines or attrack water.

All the brands I sold at the time had TSB's regarding alcohol, most notably Stihl(the chain saw people).

BIG jets to run alcohol

I just put two cans of this stuff in my tank when I filled up today. We'll see if it makes a difference. It was $6. 49/can at NAPA.

At the concentrate that Sea Foam recommends the alcohol would be a very tiny percentage of the fuel by volume. Some auto fuel OTO is ten percent by volume. That is a problem and would significantly alter your mixture. As you know, two strokes are much more sensative to lean mixture than four stroke engines. In short, I don't think there is a problem if diluted to Sea Foams ratio.

There are several different types of alcohol and they have cause varying degrees of corrosion. Methyl is the really bad stuff. Ethyl and Isopropyl aren't so bad. Even aircraft engines in which alcohol is generally forbidden will allow Isopropyl alcohol at a 1:100 ratio in some engines. It is used as an anti-freeze by preventing water from forming into ice crystals and clogging the screen (filter) under extremely cold conditions.

In the FWIW category:

I've read a lot here about Sea Foam here so I gave it a try. I've had an intermittent knock or 'ping' since about 4k miles. I dose of Diesel Kleen will generally take care of it for a while but it always came back.

Last week I tried the Saa Foam in the filter canister method described on the can. I also put two cans in my 40 gallon aux bed tank.

The truck restarted without a problem after bumping the LP. My wife and I went on a mountain sightseeing drive over through the NH mountains. Had the ping for most of the day and thought 'Oh Well. '

After about 200 miles I noted the ping had disappeared. I've been driving the truck around town on short trips this week and I'm not getting the ping. So, we'll see. I've had a constant problem with long highway drives gunking up my injectors to where I'll have a hard start and white smoke the next day and I actually got a cylinder #1 misfire code once. I think I'm going to buy a case of the Sea Foam if it can keep things clean for multiple refuels. FWIW.

You know what Sea Foam sounds like to me, some stuff called Chemtool B-12. I used to get it at Auto Zone in SO-CAL. "Like $3. 00 a can" When I had my Super charged Tacoma I ran that stuff with 93 octane in the dessert and needless to say, if my truck only had wings... ... . I wonder if it's the same thing, but cheaper? Chemtool does everything they say sea foam does, but like I said it's cheaper... I'm sure someone has heard of this stuff besides me. What do you guy's think?

I found the web-site for Chemtool... If you can't find sea foam "you should be able to find chemtool"... Website info at www.berrymanproducts.com I'm pretty sure it's the same thing...

I looked at the chemtool and seafoam MSDSs from their respective websites. They don't have any chemcals in common. They are the same in that they both claim to be injector cleaners. I've used other injector cleaners: was just posting to say I've had the best results (to date) with seafoam.

Oh, okay... Well, maybe if someone can't find Sea Foam, they'll have better luck with finding Chemtool, I'm sure it's just as good.
