on my 3rd senging unit and want to know if anyone makes a reliable sending unit that will do a good job for longer than 6 months (50,000 miles)

Sending Units

From napa, erratic pressure readings, drops lower and lower, and now reads way below zero, then after 10 miles running comes slowly back up. From other threads, this seems to not be too unusual and a quality replacement is avail. but prev. mention did not name the brands or prices of the better units. Tried another search today but could not find additional info. I may have to try the second gen. forum. Will do a thorough cleaning tomorrow just in case it is bad connections.

I have a NIB Cummins oil pressure sending unit I have not installed yet. I can sell it you if you have trouble sourcing a Cummins part. The dealer is pretty convenient for me.

Its a genuine Cummins dealer part that I purchased at Cummins Atlantic a few weeks ago. By NIB I meant new-in-box, never used. I offerred it since its hard for some guys to get to a Cummins dealer. I will sell it at the price I paid and show you the invoice from the dealer. I think it was about $46. Just PM me.

I replaced mine in 2002 with a NAPA version and I then replaced it again with a Chrysler part (in a Cummins box). It was actually cheaper than Cummins for the location I was in at the time. . . . . anyways . . . the Chrysler Parts Manager told me at that time that the oil pressure sending units for the Cummins was the most common Cummins part he sold. . . . until the sending unit was upgraded in 2000 or 2001, apparently the NAPA part mfr did not get the same upgrade info?

The Cummins engine will literally shake these sending units to death very quickly. . .

Yes in the marine application as well. But when I went to a VDO sender and gages they held up. NAPA quality and some others just don't cut it for all applications.

Yes and they are excellent quality. The trouble is that the senders are "backwards" so you need to get a matching gage. Otherwise your gages will read opposite...
