Just wanted to get your opinion

I can't seem to find a WHITE 3500 with a NV5600 Laraimie H pkg

Should I think about going to an automatic

I will only tow over up to max about 2000 miles per year some of this would be in mountain and coastal hills

The rest of the time I will be just pulling my lite 16' flatbed utility trailer for loads under 3000 lbs

All trailers are rear hitch type

I have always had manuals figure I would have better longivity with a manual

Thanks

and the camping rig

Boy... now thats a loaded question. It's kind of like asking which oil is best ;) Ultimately, the decision will be yours to make. I got the auto for one reason only. In case the wife may have to drive with 15K loaded if I was injured. I want to be sure she can get me to a hospital. :-laf

That is a REAL good reason to go with a AUTO

Hope she never has to make that trip

That's what ambulances and friends are for. If you're worried about it teacher her to drive it. I'll row my own gears thank you.

abdiver you don't say where you are located, but if it is near Carson City, Nv. you should give Charlie Gilley or Dave Butler a call at Carson Dodge. They have a good selection of CTD's and their favorite color to stock is white so that should help you get an NV5600.

I just got a silver 05 with the NV5600 and they are an invoice dealer with no BS.

I hope this helps.

BTW I'm not affiliated with anyone, except my TDR buddies that deserve a good deal.

Here is Carsons #(775) 883-2020

Also do an inventory search. Here is the link to their site.

I got sidetracked on my previous post. :D

My advice on the auto vs stick.

Make damn sure you like the auto before you buy one.

Look at my sig and you will know what I mean. :-laf

If I had to, I would wait for a year to get the truck I wanted, especially something as important as getting a manual transmission. This assumes that I have a servicable truck to use while I'm waiting.

Are you set on getting the NV5600, or would you get a G56 once it's available?

No wonder some are having trouble getting their trucks, they all got shipped to Carson City, Nevada. :-laf Did a search on their site on 3500's only & it showed 99 trucks. I'll get a trailer going that way sometime & check 'em out.

Sorry I am north of San Francisco Ca.

I will check out the Florida site Long way to go

I have found a Lt Almond only I did want White I guess Almond would not show the dust as much as a White one

So far the only two trucks spec'd out for my wants and needs

Problem is one is a 2500 the other Lt Almond. As each minute goes by I think I am starting to like the Almond exterior

Laramie 6speeds are hard to find. It took me a while to find one. Had to go to North Carolina from upstate NY to find Mine. But it was well worth it!

Take your time and get what you want. I wanted an Extended Cab when I got my '96, but let my wife talk me into a Standard Cab. Have not been 100% happy since.

Carson City is a lot closer than Florida :D :D

Both my wife and daughter can handle a manual trans. My daughter would complain, though. My wife has been driving a manual for 25 years. OK, 30 years. But I dare not admit to more.

Wait for the manual. Buy the almond. It'll be worth it.

Dittos on waiting for the truck you want. Otherwise you COULD be suffering from the eternal "oh, if I only woulda, coulda, shoulda", which can quickly lead to buying another new truck. Unfortunately, been there done that (standard cab>quad, then srw>drw).

NV5600 vs G56

I would not what a G56 at all nor do I like the DMF at this time. Unless they are proven to be able to hold up. It appears to me the reasoning on the DMF is to soften the stress to the transmission. I am not impressed at this time I think I would rather go with a Auto if can't make a deal on an auto I am ready to buy have two sticks lined up one 3500 and one 2500 but I got to get the stiffer ride in the 3500 figured out.

Man I felt I had skinned a fat hog when I found mine, damn remarkable vehical ;)

Oh and check this out my wife insisted on the six speed, due to the pill she swallowed when I put the ATS trans in the 99 :-{} . I can't keep her out of the thing :(

Definitely wait for what you want.

I lucked out and found the truck I wanted in Salt Lake City. Flew out from Chicago and drove it back. It's cost me a few bucks, but hey, I bought a used 1999, loaded. I'm happy.

I can't blame you for wanting an NV-5600 over a G56 at this point in time for three reasons;

- 1) the unknown (I know, there has been speculation) reason for DC's hold on G56 trucks

- 2) Dual mass flywheels give me shivers

- 3) Although the G56 might be a good transmission, we KNOW the NV-5600 is a good transmission.

Without getting it to the whole auto vs. manual "discussion" all over again, I'll just say that I was unsure of what to buy when I bought my '01. 5 auto and I regretted it the whole time I had the truck. Bought my '03 NV-5600 and have been driving it for a year and a half and haven't regretted my decision even once.

Everybody is different, but to me color is a very low priority compared to transmission choice. I'm very much a "form follows function" kind of guy and would stress about things like gear ratios and limited slips long before worrying about the color of the truck. FWIW, Almond is definitely one of the lowest maintenance colors you can get.

Having just bought my own out-of-state CTD, from AZ, I have a smal warning to give. If you are purchasing a NEW CTD and you reside in CA, the truck MUST have all of the Ca emissions stuff, as long as it has less than 7500 miles. If it doesn't have the CA stuff then DMV will not register it. :( However, if the truck is bought with over 7500 miles on it when purchased, then you can bring into the state. I know it may be a tad confusing on the LAws of CA, but check out the CA DMV website. http://www.dmv.ca.gov

I just wanted to give you the heads up. I would hate for a fellow TDR member to get the truck they want, only to find out they will still have to spend a few thousand $$$ to register.

BTW - it only cost me <$300 to register my (new) Used CTD. I hope this helps.
