Man, that brings back some memories.

My first REAL job was at a shop where we built Electrical Utility trucks, bucket trucks and digger derricks. The winches used that same type nylon rope, the most popular size was 1". One of my jobs was to make the ropes for the winches and there is literally no telling how many eyes I've made. I still have a 15' X 3/4" rope I made that I carry in my truck for towing.

Once you've done a few and get your marks right on your bench you want have any problems. Make sure you buy plenty of extra, you are going to make mistakes at first and it takes a couple of feet to make the eye.

Have only had a few minutes so far to try it, I get the outside casing through the core and all but I keep pulling it back out while going the other way with the core...will try again tonight and watch closer to see how I am managing to pull that casing out of place....

I never said I was a Fast Learner...:D

Mike, check out a website called Animated knots by Groggs (sp?) It has a play by play of literally hundreds of knots specific to climbing, fishing, rescue, boating, and "fun" knots. I spent about 7 years on a Confined Space Rescue team and we learned a lot from that website.

Here's a shot of one end of a tow rope I made many moons ago. It's not the prettiest but it's done a lot - yanking out stuck quads, mowers, hanging deer, etc. Lately it's seen regular duty of hanging my ungodly awkward 5th wheel hitch off the cherry picker to load and unload out of the truck :-laf.
They are strong when done properly.

He's dealing with a totally different rope JR. It's Samson Double Braided rope. It has a braided core and a braided cover. You have to separate it then make the loop.

Stick with it Mike. You'll figure it out. I had to learn on my own from a pamphlet because they fired the only other guy that knew how to do it. I'll tell you this, the 1" rope was a lot easier than the smaller stuff.

I'm well aware of that. It's similar to a climbers rope, which we used exclusively on the confined space rescue team. I'm not 100% sure but I'd bet money the Groggs website has a step by step if he needs more insight. It's a wealth of knowledge.

The rope I'm using is Wally Worlds finest so I'm sure that's not helping me any!!:D

Hoping to get to West or Hamilton Marine in the near future and get some good stuff. Figure once I master this third world rope the rest will be a piece of cake...

Took boat out last night for an hour long sunset/dusk cruise...I still feel a tad (and a small tad at that) of hesitation when increasing throttle position moderately. Shove it full throttle and zero hesitation, takes right off.

Tried several hot restarts, was very calm so a perfect night to shut it down and stargaze.

Restarted perfectly every time without touching the throttle. Excellent!!!!

Put new tires and rims on boat trailer yesterday. One was weathercracked badly and to give some idea of the tires age it is marked as a B78/13....that's probably an original tire from 1997!!!!

Mike,
I would check and repack the wheel bearings given the trailer has not been touch very much, as winter is approaching your area another project for the winter.

Is the trailer marine galvanized or a nice white painted turning rusty, this winter you have new chore housing the boat and trailer inside and doing some serious external maintenance. Going to keep you busy join the boating world!
