Silencer ring in turbo

Does high fuel presure make the 24valve hard to start?

Enough of the transmision shootout thread...How about this??

First post for me. I have a 94 12 valve, five speed and today I thought I would replace the relay to the fuel solenoid and also remove the ring in the turbo, which I did. Sure was surprised to not notice any difference. I still can't hear it. I have been trucking for 25 years and sure miss the turbo whine. Anybody else have this same problem? Since I still can't hear it, should I replace the ring or leave it out? Thanks-----Michael

Michael, you may have to change your air filter before you notice much difference. I've got the K&N filter and she just whistles up a storm:D Gets almost annoying for the passenger at 30 pounds of boost:)

I don't know what the BHAF would sound like, maybe someone else can chime in on this.

Thanks for the reply, Steve. I do have a K&N filter and ran my boost up to over 25 lb when I tried it out and it actually sounded quieter than before. Strange, isn't it? Thanks again-----Michael

I'm surprised you can't hear it:confused: Maybe the holes drilled in the bottom at the back of my air box have something to do with it:)

With the straight pipe it wouldn't bother me if I didn't hear the whistle under the hood, there is plenty of whistle available from outside:D

I removed mine some time ago. Just can hear it, usually between 5 and 10 lbs. boost, on climbing or acceleration. Don’t hear it above or below:( . My wife says she always hears it.

I have the standard air box with K&N and no mods.

My wife says my selective hearing has gone nuts, and my ears think it’s her whining. She also suggested maybe it’s my age, cause I got other things that don’t work as good as they use to:( .

Maybe we need to move the turbo, or buy an English Ram. :D

As it says, it's a "silencer ring". Some hear it, some don't. Some think it is annoying. Mechanically leaving it out should not hurt anything from what I have read.

Thanks Steve and Wayne for the replys. I have to agree with the hearing isn't what it used to be. Maybe it sounds better with straight pipes. I gutted the cat years ago. I also have a Freightliner Classic running a Cummins N14 525 HP, so guess I'll just have to listen to it whine. ---Michael
