Which 5th Hitch?

Electronic Brake Controller

Paul,
Jayco must have upgraded their entry steps. Ours are solid as an anvil. My leg is almost healed! Our only repair after our trip out I-10 beating it to death for hours was the closet rod pulled out of the wall. We had some heavy leather jackets and jeans hanging on it and it's at the very rear of the trailer in the bathroom. Remember the back seat of the school bus? Every bump would bounce you out of the seat. It even broke a hanger. I used some hollow door anchors from HomeDepot. I'd still like to go for broke and get the 28ft Designer with all the extras and shock absorbers. #ad

New 28' (263RK Jayco) double slide is what they called it, bought Oct 00 and used consecutively for 8 weeks. Towed, rained on, snowed on, pulled back in the boonies for deer camp - slide has not leaded one drop. Plus it is very warm compared to the 24' Terry Resort I traded in. For the money, I feel the Jayco is well work the money. I can't justify the price of the higher priced units when I can set up a cabin on a nice lake for almost the same money.

You ought to see the 1996 Jayco Designer Series 3530 Double Slide I just got in. It must have been in someone's time capsule.

An aside RE 'size':

We got a 1998 28' Holiday Rambler and as a result, had to buy a new Dodge Ram to pull it! #ad
Love the quality and it is solidly built, but as we like to dry camp as much as possible, we like small trailers and the quality coach builders keep making the big units. When we got ours there was only one unit smaller than ours, a 26 footer. I'd like to go 21' or 24' if I could... . Looked for years at Airstream, but all the nice models are loooooong.

BUT, that said, we now have a wonderful combo. I scream up hills and can actually earn speeding tickets if I'm not careful!

I've always thought that you guys with the 30 plus footers stayed mainly at private rv parks if not out in the wide open spaces..... So many of the state parks have size restrictions and most importantly we've almost got in trouble at some Forest Service Campgrounds! Some are really old and built when the largest trailers were 16 foot Scotsmans! Even with my 28 footer I'm real careful going into state and federal campgrounds, especially at night!

One last thing: the Holday Rambler is completely sealed up, bottom included. Kinda nervous when something breaks - I'll have to get out the tin snips to get in there! Not looking forward to that... .

Just got back from a trip - boat this time! It sure was nice, but I still prefer the RV.

I heard in the past that slides were a hit or miss when they were new, but new ones should have the problems worked out.

Heard of some problems with the level floor designs hanging up, but was probably more sales hype than anything.

Our biggest concern was galley and toilet access when on the the road. We passed up several designs we really liked because we couldn't make a sandwich without opening up a slide. Hard to do parked next to the big rigs in a rest stop.

A number of you have commented about the smaller units. This seems to be regionalized to the West Coast. This last summer on our first trip to Colo. of the season, we took a smaller unit. While we had other nicer, larger units, we were so impressed with this one. It was a 1997 Hitchhiker II S 26. 5 with a Super Slide. What a delightful unit! Figure you lose 5ft. over the bed of the truck so the net is roughly 21. 5ft. behind you. Model RKUG(rear kitchen, ultra glide. same same Super Slide) My wife and I had all the room we wanted. And during road and potty stops, you can fix something to eat or drink, sleep, go potty and the slide was not in the way. I bolted on a clamp hitch and hooked my Gold Wing on the back and the whole unit pulled like a dream. To those who are looking for a smaller unit with a slide, I would highly recommend that unit and floor plan to anyone. Nuwa really has their act together. Happy Camping

We have a 2000 Terry 305G 5er with a double slide, no problems. We did have the slide adjusted, I think it was because we forgot the bars in on the slide while transporting from Arizona and Colorado, on vacation last year. No problem with leaks or quality at all.
