On my 99 with 230k miles, I have noticed a slight miss only at idle, (has been intermittent for probably last 75k miles) with any load it clears up (even just the A/C compressor kicking in). The miss is not common at lower elevations (currently at 1200') but is more noticeable at higher elevations (our place in CO is at 7200') but it is still pretty slight, you can hear it, and just barely feel it, doesn't rock the truck or anything like that. It shows up the worst after a hard fast run, like running down I-25 from Cheyenne to Fort Collins at 75-80mph and jumping off the interstate to stop at a red light. I figured with 230k miles I would change the injectors out to 275s but haven't gotten it done yet. The motor has done this for a couple years now, before you only noticed it at really high elevations (>7500') and I just attributed it to the elevation but it has started to do it more at the lower elevations also. The head gasket was leaking and was replaced about 75k ago (miss was present prior and post head gasket leak)
Also the motor doesn't always like to start up in its usual barely bump the starter fashion if it is hot when shut down (only started this in the last 25k miles or so), only notice it when it is hot both outside and been running down the road for a while... such as pulling a 24' GN stock trailer down the highway in 95 degree weather. She always has started back up, but will take up to 7-10 seconds at her worst...
I always try to give adequate cool down time, wait until EGTs are below 300.
Gone through 3 or 4 LPs in last 100k miles, and FP stays around 12-15psi, maybe drops to 11 @ WOT.
The truck will smoke pretty good on a cold startup if outside temp is below 40, especially if it was below 30 while parked overnight. nice stream or white smoke until she gets warmed up. Under normal operating conditions no abnormal smoke that I can tell, if you take her to WOT up an on-ramp there will be a stream of black smoke, but not anything I would call excessive.
Now for the part that confuses me a little
I started running the synpower fuel additive, when I would remember to use the product, the motor would start right up every time, within one second or so... but the miss got more frequent, not more noticeable just more frequent. Not sure what the connection is.
I am trying to pile up the $ to buy the 275 injectors and an exhaust brake, and am hoping I am not needing to dig deeper into the wallet than that...
I was going to try loosening up individual injector lines to see if i could ID a bad injector, but it only seems to show the signs in places where this would not be appropriate... never at home.
I have checked for codes, only overboost was present when I bought the truck at 80k miles, and since then only CEL from a bad crank sensor.
Hoping to get her running right pretty quick, have 12 horses and a lot of stuff to move from CA to CO in the next week or two... Oo.
