OK, So now I am really confused, on the downloads section, two different categories for common rails (2003-2005. 5 & 2003-2007). My Smarty serial number is S04A06000098, does this mean I can only use downloads from the 2003-2005. 5 category which are the S04A VER, 309b series or can I also download the 2003-2007 which are the S06A, 405a series? In the 2003-2007 category they say S06A VER, I am assuming this is a later released Smarty? Will these updates work on my unit?

there are two different smartys available for the common rails (s-04 and s-06). The original (s-03)is only good for the 03-05 trucks. The new design (s-06) had a hardware change that was needed to make it work with the 06 trucks. The new version is now compatible with all year trucks from 03-07. If you have the original style (which you do), you have to download the appropriate software which is the s-04 software.

I hope that I didn't make that too confusing. :D

Jess you should stick to the 03/05. 5 downloads.

Thank You Bob! and also lmills!

I can download the updates to the Smarty folder on my PC, but when I Plug in the Smarty with the usb cord, I no longer get the "new hardware found" message. It has been since Sept when I did the last updates, must be something simple I am missing? Anyway, Happy New Year! :D

you dont need the new hardware found wizard since the driver is already installed

proceed directly to the smarty usb program. load the software and THEN press the send button

i got stuck with that same problem last night lloyd helped me through it. after i spent about an hour deleting and reinstalling the smarty software just to find out the smarty stuff was still there from before.

Hey, Thanks again Bob, I got it, after you mentioned the USB program it all came together. I successfully updated my Smarty to 309D305B.

It is snowing again in Spokane so I will wait a few days for dry pavement to try out the new download :D.

I also downloaded the programs for aftermarket turbo & injectors, I have stock injectors but if I have been following this post correctly, the timing has been reduced or redefined to allow for the extra fuel that aftermarket injectors provide. My thinking is that if my TST and my Smarty still do not get along together because of too much timing... I can try one of those updates to see if it is anymore compatible.

It is worth a try if I can get these two stacked and working like they sometimes do!

Got a Smarty for Christmas

So I got a Smarty last week and now have a few questions.

I didn't have much time so I just loaded number 4 into my truck last week with out doing any updates.

I love the Smarty. Lots of low end and lots of smoke.

My truck is stock other then the Smarty, what software should I load and what settings work good for towing/ what about daily driving.

I downloaded all the latest software Sunday night and just need to update the Smarty now.

Also, I think I read earlier in this post that it is not necessary to return my truck to stock before updating the Smarty. Is that correct?

yes you have to return the truck to stock before you can update the smarty. it can not be vin locked when updating software.

as for what setting for a stock truck i would not go past the 90 hp setting just to save your trans. i would also turn it down while towing.

You do not have to return the truck to stock. I have updated Smarty several times with Marco's software still in my truck and haven't had any problems.

I like setting #1 for towing...

the vin number will never change and smarty can be left on.

wow thats news to me. thanks for setting me strait. less work for me to do.

i think i got that confused with my old BDDL.

Robert

I will add that if your truck is on level 3 when you do an update from your computer and when you plug the smarty back into your truck it may show stock software but you can reprogram from that point.

Cool, thanks. That makes it a little less work. What will I notice with the updates?

Another question. I am on level 4 because I have a Rokktech sensor. I am going to remove it and go to level 5. Is it true that with the timing settings I will have lower EGT's. What about my Pyro being mounted post-turbo. I plan on moving it but haven't yet. Is this playing with fire or am I o. k. for a little while?

I just DL'd and installed ver. 309D205A, works great much better. My power is back, egt's are down again and just a tad more smoke. No ABS light or any other codes after uploading to my truck.

Thanks Marco.

Sid

I'll second that, just downloaded 209d205a (using level 3)..... very nice, smooth as a baby's *****, shifts good (again very smooth)... . power is back as it was in original version (for 06 year), egt's are down vs last version,... . very happy.....
