SMARTY questions for new +50 Injectors

Hello to all, new guy to the forums and a new 5.9 owner. I have wanted one for a while now and found one with about 195k on it. I don't want to build a race truck, just a mild power upgrade. Right now looking at the basic stuff. Air filter, turbo back 4 or 5 inch and a tuner. I'm looking at the Smarty Jr. Going to get some pliar gauges too. My question is will the Smarty Jr work with the Shift logic module? Or does the Smarty raise line pressure already? The trans has already been rebuilt and works fine now and I'd like to keep it that way for as long as possible

Yes, Smarty JR changes some shift points but i didn't found a logic in it.
Set on fuel saving it shifts very early up, almost lugging the engine.
I drive with the towing program, that's nice.

The shift logic moduleis supposed to raise the line pressure. I'll see if I can add a link, the truck is a 2006 mega cab BTW

Ah yeah, now I know.

I wouldn't ad this to an already built transmission. That module is IMHO meant for stock trannys.
That could have odd effects together with a shift kit.
 
The Smarty does nothing with the transmission unless you get a special file. On a built transmission with a shift kit installed (should have already been done) you don't need anything else. Best to verify your pressures so you know what you have.

It was rebuilt, but to what degree I don't know. Could be stock or modified, but most likely stock. It was used to pull a gooseneck with a skid steer most of its life

How are the line pressures checked?

I am not aware of the SJR doing anything with the trans tuning. The perceived shift changes will be based on throttle changes, and other engine based fueling parameters.

I'm guessing the same, throttle input is different and therefore the position of the TV Cable.

Line pressure is the middle port on the passenger side. Tell is the values at idle in drive, and WOT in drive and we can tell you if the valve body has a shiftkit in it.

But aside from this, RAM did a good upgrade in 2005 with the TV motor, it sets pressures in the transmission that the ECM demands and not so clueless as the TV cable was before.

What kind of investment is it to measure the pressure? I'm not shy about buying tools that I need but I'd like to know if it makes sense to buy of have a trans shop check

Shift points are essentially based of the trans output shaft speed sensor and TV pressure generated by cable position or TTVA motor position. The TTVA is an example of a good idea poorly implemented and the electronics quite frankly suck, cheapest provider and all.

Pressure is checked in multiple places. On the passenger side middle port is TV pressure, it will vary with the position of the TV lever (upper lever on the shift linkage), read it with lever all the way each way (will tell you if a shift kit has been installed).

Intermediate band and direct clutch apply is read from the front port on passenger side, 1st gear apply and reverse is read from the rear port. Upper rear passenger side is gov pressure port, upper rear driver side is OD apply pressures.

I assume you have the 48RE? Are you trying to get better shift behaviour/pattern? If so, look at the MM3 or Touch platform over the JR and check out Rob's tunes at https://www.mm3tuning.com - he adds transmission tuning to his power and tow tunes. I have been running his MPG tune (which works as advertised and provides a nice boost in power as well) and the shift pattern is fantastic. I also tried his tow tune and it is hard to express how much I like the added power and how great the truck shifts (he claims this is the way it should have been from the factory and he is right!) - and it solved my EGT problems. I have a totally stock trans.
 
Yes, I want firm shifts , minimum slippage

I already ordered the Jr. So after the holidays I'll check the line pressure and go from there
