Your not the only "Albertan" waiting, bin supporting Bob/Marco's addiction to power/mods for a bit now(catcher). Everytime they offer something,my wife gets a little uneasy, wallet seems to get lighter too. Bob will be sending a Smarty and some bigger sticks this way soon. (MACH 2. 4or 4's ) ----DW.

I will probably bite the bullet for one last set of injectors after the Smarty-I have BD2's in now but would like to move to something EDM for a little less smoke and hopefully a little more mileage. First things first though... .

Marco; As I sit here waiting for the mail lady, yes im expecting to see smarty today Oo. I was pondering... . Could there be another setting that wont let the rig start should there be an attempt to steal it ie: motel parking lot?

Yes, Marco can disable to tps. no go pedal :D

go check the mailbox :-laf

The disable feature would be a really nice to have feature (along with the 10,000 other NICE to have features).

I sure am noticing a lot of ads for this Superchips Flashpaq thing on the website lately. Are they trying to steal some of the Smarty's market share? I don't know anything about this thing. Is this what Marco is referring to as his competition?

Whatever it does, I know it doesn't have the one thing that makes the Smarty so great - the CaTCHER software!

beta testing

I am unfortunately not going to be able to continue testing & reporting on the new Smarty. My truck & I has a slight mishap on an icy patch of road & a steep ravine. I'll be in a Halo brace for the next 3 months & hopefully my truck will get a new cab & body panels.

Man darkhorse, that sucks. Hope you get back to speed in a hurry, so to speak.

I wanted to post that I think Smarty can be taken out of the "research and development" mode now since we are buying them and using them as end product consumers.

This forum is a member-only forum which is fine for where things were. A Smarty thread just got closed in the public forums because it was "redundant. "

BTW, my lift pump is a little weak. I think I'll start a thread about it to learn new information since the last LP thread was started. None of those threads get closed.

Holy Smokes ! You gonna be alright ? Glad to see your still kickin' . WoW :--)

Ah, Smarty too much for ya to handle Heh . . . . . . ?

Yes, I'm going to be fine. I only broke one small bone. Unfortunately it was C2. The miraculous part is I was able to extract myself from the inverted truck by kicking out the windshield, & climbing the 10 feet back up to the road. I owe my like to an old dead Elm the stopped me from rolling down the steep embankment into oblivion. The doctors at the Mayo Clinic were quite amazed at my story & the fact that I sustained not neurological damage.

Smarty didn't contribute to this mishap. I was already coasting & braking down a hill when the wet ice showed up. Dang near made it around the turn & stopped when the centrifugal force slid me off the road bed.

darkhorse,

C2 is just a little bit important, as I'm sure you know. Don't look down, type slowly, and tighten down the halo! C2 makes me nervous, but it sounds like you're in good hands.

Thanks guys! My medical team was top drawer & my Guardian Angels are gaining lots of experience keeping this clumsy fool alive against all odds. My truck needs some serious rehab. but none of the drive train & structural members were damaged.

He doesn't have any competion. There are down loaders and then there is the one and only smarty.

Omg!

Richard! Buddy!

MAAAN, that's one major bummer! Sorry to hear!!!

What a relieve to hear you're OK! Well, almost Ok... .

You must have a good relationship with the old guy up there, he musta have looked down and let you stay with us! Watching at your truck's pics it appears that things could've been much worse than what they are.

Your are in my prayers.

Marco

Thanks Marco, that means a lot to me. I've had a great time running the various CaTCHER programs. Of course, #9 is my pick for biggest grins. I've got 3 months in this brace & my truck may very well be ready to drive when I am. I'll get some milage comparisons then. Thanks again for bringing me on board the beta testing team. It's been great fun & an honor.

Richard,

you can't immagine how sorry I feel for you . I fired up the puter this morning, went to read this thread to see the news. And then THIS!!!

Not the best way to start a new day...

Oh well, sh. . happens! After all you've been one LUCKY dude but that you already know...

Do you have already an estimate of the damage to the truck?

Marco

P. S. on a lighter note... . I that last pic... What size are those new experimental sticks is see there? Hp? Mpg? EGT's?... ;) Hey now that I look closer, I see only 4 sticks. Testing a different power plant?

I received my smarty yesterday, and had trouble getting the smarty to talk to my ecm via the plug, I called bob and we talked while I was in the truck. The communication finally worked and I downloaded #9 and I just love the responce. This morning I tried to down load #1 and halfway thru, the down load aborted, I tried for 30 minutes and bad communications. I jumped in the wifes grocery getter and purchased some dielectric grease coated the drb connector on my truck, pluged and unluged smarty in a couple times, and it put the stock program into my truck and then I loaded #1 with no problem. I have all the confidence that my connection problems are cured. I could only guess what the cause was, which could have been armor all spray on the plastic in the vicitnity of the plug or anything. Just wanted to get this problem posted in case others have the same experience.

JKinney,

You have a very good point there!

I think we have never talked about the OBD II plug in the trucks.

In my mind, cheaper than that design is almost impossible! And thinking that the Automotive industry has adopted that design world wide! Probably because it is just that, cheap. Heck, a cheapo VCR Scart cable / plug has better contacts and is better designed!

From what Bob W told me, most likely the pins for the communication signals made poor contact thus that problem. Looks like the dielectric grease has cured that.

Good news is ( for me anyway ) Smarty did it's recovery mode for the intrupted communication without further problems. Oo.
