The ECM is on the drivers side of the Cummins, about mid block.

The Smarty is a hand help programmer. QUOTE]

Fox or Anyone, What does the ECM look like I looked on my engine and I don't see it Of course I don't really know what it looks like. Can anyone take a picture of it or refer me to a picture of it online or in the TDR magazine.

Thanks, Bill

Dang guys I'm gonna have to unsubscribe from this thread to keep my sanity! The initial reports are sounding great! The suspense is killing me!

Bob I hope I get a call from you early next week!

The ECM appears as a metal box, approx 6" x 8" sq and 1" thick bolted to the side of the block with two large plugs of ~50 wires each pluged into the face of it. What you really need to know however is that this product plugs into the port on the bottom of your dash (right below the steering colum) and in 2 minutes time downloads a new program to your ECM. Then you unplug it, throw it under the backseat and enjoy the ride

Scott, Thanks

Sounds like a really nice upgrade.

I will be real interested in the feed back from the gen 3 beta testers

Hi gang,

As you know, I've been rather busy lately. FINALLY the first production batch has been shipped. I don't know if you can imagine how much work is involved in getting a project like the Smarty rolling.

Just for example, each single Smarty has been tested in my truck. Each Smarty did an update from stock to CaTCHER, ABS update, read DTC codes and then back to stock.

A waste of time? It's been important to do it. 4% of the production showed problems of various nature. The causes have been identified and corrected. I have personally assembled, programmed, tested, boxed , shipped all Smarty's.

That took it's time but I believe it was time well spend. I found the problems instead of the customer. I want to deliver a quality product and quality starts with a very tight quality control.

I'm telling you this example because I would like you to understand how we do our things here. Quality, thus customer satisfaction FIRST, anything else is less important.

That brings me to the third gen Smarty which a lot of you would like to have already in their hands to play with. Up to date, I've never chimed in when people were asking questions about it. Why?

We're actually doing our R&D thing on the third gen. The beta CaTCHER softwares are ready ( have been for a long time ) , the protocol for the updates is almost ready ( we can update the ECM ) the DTC code reader is working. Yet, a chain is as strong as it's weakest part. Same goes for a product. A product is as good as it's worst part. I COULD release a third gen Smarty in the next days, but would it be as strong and as good as I WANT it to be? No! It would be like the competition. That simply ain't going to happen.

See, there's more involved than simply downloading a software into the ECM and call it OK. Footprints, recovery bootloader, 100% debugged software ( if that's ever possible ) just to mention a few, all known problems... Problems that I don't want to be present in the third gen Smarty. That takes it's time.

When? When? When?

I don't want to sound rude with my answer. When? Whenever Stefano and Marco are satisfied with what they did. Clear as mud?

I receive ton's of E-Mails with questions like, how much hp, how much tq, how this and how that... Well, any claim for a product that's under R&D would be HYPE not facts. Sorry, hype isn't my way.

Please be patient, I WILL keep you updated.

Thanks,

Marco

Hello Marco,

Could you maybe post a list of othe power adders you know your third gen Smarty will work with? I was wondering if it will work with TS MP-8 in particular. I was thinking of stacking this with a TST box and Smarty.

Marco, you're doing such a good job with the Smarty's, how about taking on the lift pump longevity problems we 98. 5+ owners frequently have? Maybe you could bullet-proof the electronics on the VP-44's?

Hey I posted a report... ... ... :--)

If the following questions have been answered already I apologize but I don't feel like reading through 400 posts.

When installing the smarty software does it install all the currrent updates, (like cold idle, fake oil pressure reading, etc. ), or can you pick and choose the ones you want?

When driving can the cable be left in the OBDII port and just unplug the Smarty? Will it harm anything to leave the smarty attached when driving? Is the cable connection on the Smarty a USB connection?

Thanks,

Bill

Release is a good thing... . :) . Can't wait for the magic email from Bob to arrange payment and shipping-I am very interested in the fuel saver mode. My truck gets operates differently than most-more like a UPS truck I suppose than anything. 20 min. drive to the field in the morning and home again at night, in between intermingled with between 20-40 stops of around 5 minutes with a 1-3 mile drive between each stop. It will be interesting to see what I see for a difference mileage-wise... . and power-wise, although I haven't even turned my DragCOMP on for at least 3 months now. 200000+ kilometres on an HX40 tends to moderate the right foot just a shade... . :p

Anxiously Awaiting in Alberta

Jason

Your not the only "Albertan" waiting, bin supporting Bob/Marco's addiction to power/mods for a bit now(catcher). Everytime they offer something,my wife gets a little uneasy, wallet seems to get lighter too. Bob will be sending a Smarty and some bigger sticks this way soon. (MACH 2. 4or 4's  ) :D----DW.

Testing

I had a chance to "TEST" Bob W's smarty today at the bomb party. All I can say is HOLY #### this is a differant truck. I took Sixpack with me on a test ride and he was also dually impressed by this unit. I was temped to not let Bob back into my truck to take the program out :-laf I'm a true beliver now. Thanx Bob and Marco for the test run.

I saw how it changed MadBombers truck so I just had to try it in mine! Two thumbs up here! Bob you have a pm. :-laf I heard someone compare it to a big block gasser. I would agree. The torque is there right NOW. The first 3 stop and go's where tire spinning starts WITHOUT trying to. I'm one to take some comments with a grain of salt without my own expirence. But after driving with it installed this is one impressive unit. Where do I sign up?

Phil :D
