The first Edge Box was called a Power Edge box. It was all fueling and had a boost fooler built in, it had one button and three levels. When stacked with an EZ (Edges second box that is all timing) it equalled a Comp.

I would bet it would work well with the smarty. There will probaby be a run on all these old boxes now.

As for the cough your truck has, I have no idea. I know your boost ought to get to the 30+ range with DD2's and a Power Edge, especially a hot version.

It has been pretty much accepted that add-on boxes typically improve performance of a SO truck more than the equivalent HO because of basic engine and stock engine fueling design differences. So, is it likely that the CaTCHER or Smarty will also behave a bit differently in a HO than a SO?

If so, in what typical ways?

Oo. :D :D :D :D Well I loaded up program # 8 today. All I can say is that this is very, very nice. When the Comp is turned on to stack the systems together and put to level 3, you definitely have COMMAND AUTHORITY.

Since I drive a 6 speed, I am used to working the throttle and clutch in such a way that I don't burn out the clutch. 2nd and 3rd are very quick shifts. Where I really gain is when I get into 4th, 5th and 6th. For those that drive an automatic, they will benefit with the advantage of not having to shift.

I was pretty use to being pushed into the seat with the Edge-Comp, now with the Edge stacked on top of the Smarty, I am thrown back into the seat. The throttle is extremely crisp now with the low end grunt power of the engine and acceleration is no longer quick, it is now just SUDDEN.

I now have the maneuvering power that I want. It was very good before with just the Edge-Comp, but now it is just crazy-excellent :D

Those who are in doubt about buying one of these Smartys, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED, particularly when stacked with an Edge-Comp. I can't vouch for the other boxes on the market, just my own.

You have done a good job MARCO :D Next step is to put in a Limited Slip and a SB Clutch. :D :D :D

I find that on my truck 3x3 on the Comp and Smarty on #8 seems to be the max I can run with decent smoke control - I get a very observable haze, but not the black cloud I do on higher settings. That is empty and out in the flatlands - can't wait for better weather and the towing season to check out improvements with the RV in tow... Oo. :D

Just placed an order with Bob. My first real HP investment since the early Power Edge!!

Guess I'll do my engine fluids and filters, replace the bad thermostat, and then see if I can keep the Pavlovian HP anticipation response under control until the box gets here! I also Called SPA today to see if I can get my digital boost gauge repaired. Nice response, it goes in the box tommorrow!

Those rides in Nowel's red rocket are still costing me money. . :D

and Bob, nice to see the red rocket still runs the raceways!

Little more info and impressions from todays outings. I did some around town driving and freeway today. Smoke, in Program 8 with the Edge-Comp in level 3, smoke is minimal, unless you lug the engine and the question becomes how many bugs did we kill? :)

I had a small hopped up ricer with spoilers, airdams and a noisy fart pipe exhaust system, get in behind me on Hwy 26 in tail gating fashion while in the left lane. All I could see was the roof of his car in the rearview, thats how close he was. I throttled up from 55 to 80 and then merged back into the right lane and slowed back down to 55. He tried to keep up when I throttled up, but we just left him standing. Once I had slowed back down and moved over into an opening, he came up beside me and took a carefull long look at the truck. Both he and his friend looking, talking and pointing to the truck. :D

They stayed right beside me untill my exit came to turn South on 217.

Level 8 in the Smarty works very well. When I make my next trip over to Idaho or down to Utah, I plan on running Level 8 with the Edge-Comp off to see what we get for mileage.

My wife has not ridden in the truck since I made this jump up, so I expect here to ask her standard question when I do my first pass on the freeway which is "What did you do to the truck now???" :D

Consider trying the Smarty on #8 and the Comp on 1x1 for one leg of those runs - I suspect the MPG will be excellent, with lots of reserve power still on tap if needed. ;)

Smarty showed up today so I set about checking it out. After I found no codes were set, I loaded s/w#5 and took off for town. I drive with a light foot and didn't really notice any difference; until I turned to get on I5. I gave the throttle the usual stab and Smarty was definitely there. :-laf

While in town I loaded s/w#9 for the drive home. Again with my usual light footed driving technique there wasn't much difference. Then I pushed just a little more... :-laf I couldn't play with it much because the rain started turning white.

Marco,Stefano & Bob: you have an outstanding product.

Thank you Paul once you try it there is no going back

Hmmmmm, tis like a drug, this power is :D We are all suffering from the same addiction :D :)

This may be a fluke, or my imagination, but mine is definitely stronger on the stock setting than it was before. I set mine back to stock so my brother could try out the Smarty, and I had to tow a trailer while it was set to stock. I know it has more power than it did before. There were a couple of places where it would always downshift and it didn't this time. ??????

The only other thing weird I noticed was that my lift pump used to run for several seconds before I started the engine and now it only runs for about half a second. Another ??????

Well, you can always go back to the stock SW, but that will only last about five minutes... believe me. :-laf

My tourque converter still hurts, I had to go back down to the fuel saver untill I get a new stronger converter clutch :(

Marco sez:

DTC 0602... I've worked on it hard but have yet to find a cure for it.

That is why I say in the instructions that Smarty is not detectable by the dealer when the ECM is returned to stock. With the CaTCHER softwares they could / would find DTC P0602, NOT so with the stock software. Other than code P0602 Smarty leaves no trace of it's use in the ECM and the codes are erased every time the ECM is updated. Back to stock, no codes no traces.

YUP - my Smarty set the 602 code too - didn't know it until I checked codes after the second time out after setting Smarty on #8...

2 questions:

1. Does that code get set on EVERY Smarty program, or only #8 or 9?

2. Is it the actual reprogramming that creates the code, or actual engine operation - in other words, if the Smarty program is left in place, and the 602 erased, will it immediately return next time the engine is run?

I'm not at all concerned, just curious.

Surprise,Surpise,Surprise

Well after a bit of of a tough day, started at 3:30am,finished at 4:30pm,no lunch or breaks delivering bread for the last 13 hours(70 + hours this week-new product launch etc -yadda,yadda,yadda),bit of a foul mood on the way home, checked the mailbox and my bad day went away ,pickup slip at the post office from Bob Wagner Oo. Oo. Oo. . Smarty,Mach4,Torque Tube for my AFE inside. No time to install yet, i have to put my stock ecm back in and run Smarty on that one but will install soon. THANKS BOB/MARCO and all others, positive results to follow. PS --haven't heard of too many up here("Canada eh") yet that have tried the Smarty/Mach 4 combo, guess i'm the test mule(jack@%$) :-laf :-laf :-laf

Smarty got Stolen

:(

I let my brother try it out and he won't give it back. He's got a 2001 almost identical to mine. Injectors were swapped before he got it. We don't know what they are exactly. Previous owner wasn't sure either. His idles much quieter than mine though. His truck felt like it had possibly 20 to 30 more horses than mine before the Smarty.

The Smarty made much more difference on his than on mine. Needless to say, I won't be getting it back. Now I've got to wait on him to buy me another one. :{

Can I get a discount on the second one???

I got my replacement Smarty for the one that was vin locked to my wrecked truck. :) I took it right out to my replacement truck. (stock :( '01 ETC 5 speed) First I check for codes. None found. Then download sw#9. High idle works fine. The two ***** footing folks that have been driving for me don't notice anything. I do the driving back on the farm road where there's no cross traffic to worry about seeing. Even with this stock truck in 4X4 in the deep snow, I can feel the throttle is more responsive. :)
