Finally stepped into the Smarty world yesterday. Went for a ride on #9 and what a difference, I now know what I have been missing. Next Sunday I will get a chance to see just what kind of increase in mileage I get when I go to CO. Will also get a chance to try the 3 cyl. idle while I am there.

Wanted to pass along a big thanks to Bob Wagner for the fast shipping and great service. Called him on Wednesday and had my Smarty by the time I got home yesterday, Sunday. Can't forget Marco by any means, the man is a genuis. Now all I have to do is get the Revo loaded up.

Bob,

Really? Heck I just hooked up and set it to #9 and took off, lol. Is there a place I can view the settings for the revo without doing alot of searching here.

Thanks

Scott

Scott - I look forward to hearing about your impressions with it. I have one at the top of my wishlist as soon as the IRS gives me back my money.

To be honest I got it Sunday and just put it straight to #9 and took off. What a ride that was, definitely tell a difference. I got a chance to play with it today to see the differences between settings. I set Smarty to stock and took a ride what a pig it was, would hardly get out of its own way. To me it's hard to tell the difference in each setting until you get to around setting #5 after that it gets a definite seat of the pants kick. If you have a manual learn to shift quickly at higher settings and I can see why automatics fail, it makes em work a little more. I have yet to play with the revo settings, thats gonna take a while to find the right balance for what I want with all the choices.

Would I recommend a Smarty to someone, definitely. Took me a while to get one but I am very happy with it. Kinda neat to actually be able to fine tune everything to make it do what you want it to do.

Shobbs,

While the Smarty is great and I love mine, don't be disappointed if you don't show some improvement in mileage like you are hoping. Not because of the Smarty itself, but because what is does to your truck makes it much more fun to get into the throttle. You have the ability to get better mileage, but if you get carried away with your newfound throttle response and power, your mileage gains from the new software will fall to your right foot. It is really hard to get an accurate reading on the increases in this situation. I will say, that if I'm careful about using my mods, I get almost exactly the same mileage, give or take a bit, as before mods. This may not sound great, but consider that I'm now putting out much more power without any mileage loss. Much better results than a gasser.

Ken,

I know exactly what you're talking about, when I had it on #9 I was all over the place. I am already getting 18 mpg at 70 mph which I am pretty happy with. Any increase above that I will take no matter how small. My trip next week to CO will tell me if my mileage improves.

SHobbs... do you have that "slap happy" Smarty smile:) on your mug?

I've had my Smarty for a couple of years. Tried it on #7 my first day and pulling the Skyway from Chico to Paradise empty I mashed the loud peddle at about 55mph and I realized right away that my auto trans needs $3200 before I can use the Smarty at full-tilt-boogy. The "shudder" was unnerving as the mighty Cummins unloaded it's power and revealed the weak-link. I run mine on "fuel saver" almost all the time. I like the Smarty very much and even on the more modest levels it provides the "Smarty Smile" for me.

I have not upgraded the soft ware... . am I missing something?

William

Oh, ain't that the truth, William! I've got a 99 with a 5spd. Just scrounging a couple of more bucks before I spring for the SBC conOFE clutch so I can really wake up the Jammer Stage II injectors.

Just to reiterate... ... If you add a Smarty to a stock truck, expect to upgrade something around the transmission.

Slap happy smile smarty smile? Of course. All I need to do now is upgrade my injectors, if it's doing all this with stock ones I can only imagine what it does with larger ones.

William,

Not sure if you have it but there is a Revo download for Smarty. Can choose torque, timing and injection duration as well as a speed limiter.

Shobbs, hopefully you get to experience the 3 cylinder idle, but it hasnt hardly been cold enough out here this year for it to do it. dont know exactly what temp it has to get to, but lately it hasn't been cold enough... . atleast mine hasn't done it much this winter. It it kinda neat when it does happen.

SHobbs,

I spent the better part of an afternoon one Saturday testing :-laf

Tq- I tend to like 4, 6 for towing. Lower numbers seem softer, higher seem harsher. I'm not sure how this corresponds to a handshaker.

Timing- I use 4, 0 for towing. Trying for max mpg.

duration- I have been using 0. I haven't figured this one out so I use default.

Unloaded I use 1 for mpg, towing I use 5, 7 or 9 depending on how I feel.

I think I will see it, lately it has been in the single digits to the teens at night in South Fork CO where we will be staying. Got the marine injectors in today so I am hoping between them and the Smarty I can pick up a mile or two per gallon, who knows. Even if there is no increase I will have a fun to drive truck that I can dial in to suit my needs and driving habits. For the trip to CO I will go with the economy setting unless I find something in the revo that works better.

One thing I have noticed is that when I turn the key on my LP does not run like it used to. I only get a quick 1 second or so pump cycle it used to run for about 10 seconds.

Currently I have the torque at 6, timing at 3 and duration at 2. See what that does.
