Fleetguard Filters Revisited

Well, I don't have an EZ, but I have a COMP with the inj. pump wire unhooked. Since the weather has warmed up a little, I get a pretty good puff of smoke between gears and at night time I can see a haze behind me through the headlights. I checked the air filter and the hoses. How normal is this? I'm not worred, just curious.

BTW, I don't have my gauges installed yet, so I can't tell you what boost I was running, but 2 nights ago I barked the turbo twice. It happened one right after another. The second time was me checking to see if that was really what I heard. Anybody heard of this happening with just an EZ. Maybe just the right place at the right time. Or the wrong place at the wrong time.

Brian

its normal,at night in the mirrors, my truck smokes constantly with the dd's,but when your following the truck,or during daylight, you cant see the smoke,I wouldnt worry about it,now go hook up that pump wire:) ,then you'll see some smoke! (tire, and exhaust)

I actually have my comp off right now and still get smoke off the line. That is just 275s.

Get a blue chip cover and hook up to the pump:D you won't regret it. You can alway run it turned down;)

Ted

I have an EZ and have been able to get the turbo to bark. The only time this has happened though is pulling the trailer and I had to back off suddenly in order not to run over some one

Bark? You mean when the wastegate pops? Mine does that like mad with the boost up over 15 PSI--it did it bone stock, just not as often. I love the look I get from the ricer/tuner crowd in their HondAcura IntegrAccord Type "R" cars when I blow the 'gate. Who needs a "whoosh" blow off valve? Not I... .

trent...

I mean bark. The horrible sound is not easily mistaken. I accidently did it in someone elses truck with an HX40 and scotty intake, so I definately know what it sounds like. It was in 6th gear, full throttle at 2000 RPM or so. Let off the pedal as fast as you can and, BARK  . I did'nt think it really did it so I got back on it full throttle and let off fast again and guess what, it did it again.

About hooking the wire up, ya'll don't know me, I have zero self control. :D I can't hook it up and leave it turned down.

Brian

I went through this same scenario about 2-3 months back. Do a search for turbo bark and you'll be sure to find it. Unless your running boost close to and over 30 psi, I doubt you'll get it. It's not the waste gate opening but the air pressure on the intake side is escaping back through the compressor side of the turbo and out the air box.

If you ever go to truck and tractor pulls, you will probably hear it with a sudden shut down, woof - woof - woof. It starts loud and fades.

Hope this helps,

Bob

Sorry Puffin, I was going to explain what it was, then I forgot. I've got a real short term memory. I'll add one thing to Bob's post. This is bad for the turbo. With your sig. , you should easily be able to bark yours. It happens when you go from high boost to no throttle real fast.

Brian

Opps I think mine does it all the time. Does it kinda sound like a jake brake when you jab the throttle real fast then let off. Cause mine does it all the time.

Just don't go around JFuler, he will tag you with the name "loose wire", i know.

Smoke is fun aint it? I LOVE it.

the ORIGNAL kid :p ,

Oooohhhh, look who decides to show up.

I met Jim at the dyno a couple of weeks back. He did'nt know about my loose wire, I don't think. Shoot I already "stole" one of your names, I can't go and take another one. That would be enough reason to hook it up and burn up my clutch and buy a SB. :D Actually, Chaw (can't remember his real name) is running a Comp and some injectors (can't remember which ones) and slipped his stock clutch real bad and after that it's sort of holding . I looked it up and he's making 334/821 and he can slip it if abused.

Puffin, that sounds like you're probably barking it. It's not good for it, but there are quite a few people I've seen who bark it alot just to hear it.

Hey bud I haven't seen you on here in a while, I been here. :p

Just don't let Jim know about the wire, he is an alright guy for a 12v-er

Andrew

What you are describing as 'bark' is what the big rigs call 'sneezing'. It is ,as mentioned, the pressure is balancing. It can actually spin the turbo backwards. It is spinning about 100,000 rpm then you lift the throttle and it stops and goes the other way!!! It will break it in time.

Expensive fun.
