Want to switch to Evans NPG+, but do I have coolant problems?

remote fuel filter

I was reading this and getting ready to respond about the trucks being 2nd generation then noticed my post, then noticed it is from back in 2003. My statement was for the 99 I had but signature has changed since 2003.

Make a note, most guys have changed trucks since way back when and the advice is not applicable.

if you use Dex-Cool there two very important things to remember. Number 1 don't let it get low - keep your overflow bottle at the proper levels. This stuff can gel when air gets into a closed system and is almost impossible to clean up once that happens. The money you think you have saved by using it will be gone in a hurry. Number 2 don't use a flip lever radiator cap with it.

Okay Bob, I'll bite.

Why? :)

I'm running Fleetguard ES Compleat PG premix. Coming up on 2 years, no problems yet. I have not yet added any of the "extender" stuff.

I get Oreilly's straight and make my own mix with distilled water, alot cheaper than the premix, well it is for me anyways. Any of you guys that live in a cold winter climate that are not familiar with straight antifreeze after the temps drop to a certain degree straight coolant will freeze just a fyi for the new guys, thought i would throw that out there also.

I'm using Fleetguard ES Compleat PG premix and a gallons straight.

After flushing the block, I keep the lower rad hose off and pour the straight into the where the t-state would go, and keep pouring till it comes out blue. . and add some more for good measure. . seems to get it just about 50/50 with what water is left in the block from flushing it.

Then I fill with the premix.

I tied the long life version of the green from Prestone. By all the specs it's supposed to be completely compatible, but I had some rust deposits on the bottom of my over flow bottle after a year. Not wanting to push my luck I did a complete flush and rinse out, and changed to the FG ES PG. The bottom of my overflow has been clean.
