Has anyone installed the free spin kit from Solid Axle? I want to puy one on my truck, and the choice is Dynatrac or Solid Axle. I like the covered ABS tone ring with Solid Axle and the price is $600 less, but if quality is an issue, the extra $600 is cheap. I saw a check out discount to use for Rock Auto, does anyone know of one for Dynatrac or Solid Axle?

Solidaxle and Spyntec are one the same company ... I have spyntec hubs installed on my 08 dually and love it. After doing my research and based on my truck's usage, spyntec was the best fit. Been very very please and would do it again in flash.

SpynTec

:D I've had a SpynTec (Solid Axel)kit in my '06 for almost a year and ahve nothing to say but good. Matt buids avery good product and the wormanship is outstanding. He had his friend at MAD 4Wheel drive (just up the street) do the install - - they did it all along with front ball joints (MOOG greasable and U Joints in the drive shaft - - - the whole thing has been trouble free. Also had a couple of friends in South Texas put on the SpynTec and with high mileage on their trucks are doing great - - we all picked about 2 MPG - - regardless of the mileage, the fact I can use low range in two wheel drive to back up my trailer makes it all worthwhile. Oo.

Both kits are of very good quality, I've installed both. Solid and Spyntec require you to shorten the 4 spndel mounting bolts, Dynatraxx does not and also does not have the tone ring or sensor sealed inside. But, that's not an issue. Spyitec and solid do stick out about 3/8 of an inch more than Dynatraxx. You can't go wrong with any of the kits.

SpynTec ALL THE WAY. Ball Joints and U-joints at the same time and you will be set. Lovin' everyday knowing my unit bearings don't exsist anymore on my truck

I just seen a local TDR truck(think it was a 06 or 07) here in my area who was behind me with one of these kits on it. While they may be what some want I could NEVER get over how far out the hubs stick beyond the wheel. Even with his wider wheels and fender flares they looked awful and are not for me. I am still in belief that there is little or no cost savings also doing this one due to the cost of the kits and their cost to install them.

Installed SpynTech hubs, ball joints, & new front axel U joints a couple of months ago. Took about 3 days working part time and taking my time. Fuel savings - too soon to tell but I don't expect much. I have new wheel bearings that I can check/grease when ever I choose and the obvious advantage of using low range w/o 4wd. They do stick out 2 3/4" beyond the hub cap but that doesn't bother me.

Go on line and you can see what tools you will need. Not many. You CAN do this yourself and save $$$.

Good luck what ever you choose.

Those that have done like me, love it, cheaper in the long run, worth it, and a great piece of mind. For me, solved many issues on my truck and I would do it again in a snap. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and bottom line, you do what you feel is right for your truck and your pocket book.

The Hubectomy is completed!

I installed the Spyntec (solid axle) kit over the weekend. It's a well made kit and Im happy so far. I also installed Moog ball joints, and precision U joints. There is an update to the kit. There were no hub bolts supplied and mine had to be cut.

They combined the AAM and Dana kits into one item. Basically all this means is that youre getting dana outer shafts to use with your AAM u joint. They supply thin shims to put under the cap clips. The instructions explain well. The only snag I had was that- either I misplaced (I don't think I did) or were missing from the kit were the snap rings that go on the end of the stub. #@$%!

Sears Hardware to the rescue...

Here's a couple of pictures in the next post... I got my kit from Dodge 02-08 Front SpynTec Conversion Kit (AAM)

I think I can justify why the dynas are so much more money than the spyns. The spyns use the OE Dana outer shaft. That dictates how far the hub must protrude. I bet the Dyna uses a custom made shaft, allowing them to shorten the hub. That must increase costs big time... I'm putting the caps back on- soon. That should hide some of the hub.

My lord those stick waaaay out there. The dyntrac with the dynalock stay inside a toyo 35 mt on stock wheels. I know this because I have parked in the city and driven against concrete walls with the the sidewalls rubbing and not touched the hub. Yes the concrete is higher than the hubs.
