TT or Camper?

Hey People---
I'm new to this board but have some questions. I plan on replacing my truck in the near future and WANT a CTD. I have a 1 ton Ch**y and will be looking for another 1 ton. I have a 10. 5' slide-in (old one) and will be towing either a 17' steel pontoon or a 16' fiberglass boat. I don't plan on towing anything cross country, but you never know. I plan on spending about $15000 and would like it to be a 4x4. (Northern Minnesota). Are there any years that are better than others that I should look for? I will also be using the truck to go to work too. Any help would be appreciated.
Tom

Welcome aboard!! #ad

You'll probably see lots of advice (in the form of opinions[including mine]!!LOL) but IMHO, the 24V is going to have the power stock. I doubt you'll find a good one for around 15 g's without a lot of hunting.

Pre 1998. 5 models were the 12 valves. They are good. A little less power stock, but generally better fuel mileage. You won't see the quad cab prior to the 98. 5 models, either.

Not sure if your Chebby was a dually, but all Dodges are duallies if a one ton.

Also, and again IMHO, any model year you find, they ALL have their "special" quirks. If you find one that has been well cared for, the bugs will probably have been worked out.

Good luck!!!

I used to have a 1997, 4x4, ext. cab, long bed, 5 spd. . I never had any problems with it. very good truck.

PS, for a minute I thought I was looking at a post I did not remember posting. (TomC) #ad

I own TomC's old 97... ! Dont even think about a 98 1/2 and up... I wouldnt trust a computerized truck any farther than I could throw it... to answer your questions: try finding a 96-97 extra-cab and DEFINITELY with a manual transmission... this would give you the 215hp pump to start with... and with just a couple hot-rod items you can blow any 24v truck to the curb and get 20+mpg doing it! (I just filled up yesterday... all stoplight driving I averaged 20. 82mpg!!)

Welcome to the club. I am sort of partial to my '97 also. The truck before this on was a 94 2500 5sp cummins. If I was lookin' I would look for a 96 or 97 due to the pump setups and ease of setting them up to what they should have been to start. I would consider a 24v but only when they come out stock at 300 hp or higher with the alison trans. Good luck on finding one.....

Correcttion on the Quad Cab comment above, they came out in 98, not 98. 5. There are quite a few 12 valve Quad cabs out there. Mine is the best truck I ever owned. Scott D's "Second Time Around" in the TDR is a 12V Q-cab. You won't be sorry you bought a 12V.
