12V Clatter = Priceless!

Hey guys, it came to life today, runs good. You can check it out on the 12V forum. I'm tired and dirty, but proud.

Next week Denver CO. train some customers and visit accounts.

Gary, good to hear you've got the 12V running. The more I learn about the older 12V engines, the more I think if I ever get to the point of getting a CTD, it'll be a 12V. I believe in the KISS principle - the less electronics and hardware you have to add to an engine (for emissions and other hoopla), the better.

On my end, I finally got the Inmotion Stage II tune put in my ECM on the Jeep (same as Bob Rizzo had in his at the dyno day). I don't have a anti-spin diff as Bob does, and it will easily squall the tires from a standing start now. :D

Matter of fact, that tune has made the limitations of the stock Goodyear Wrangler ST's readily apparent. Already knew these tires sucked when it came to wet traction, the new found performance level just made it glaringly obvious how inadequate these tires are in a light truck/SUV application. Anything more than 1/4 throttle on a wet road will spin the rears like mad, will even lose traction on dry pavement when making a right turn accelerating out into traffic.

Going to rectify that this week. Replace those Goodyears with a set of Cooper ATR's, and move from 225/75's to 245/70's. Already had one accident due to those Goodyears losing traction on a wet road, don't fancy repeating the experience this winter.

Dyno Daze Video Promise

Boy, not such an easy task for a first timer.

Got the software loaded, and tried to edit almost two hours of video at one bite on my laptop, that doesn't work on my machine. Ya got to do it like you eat an elephant, one small bite at a time. I am starting over tonight with my neighbors help, they do this all of the time, one video clip at a time. This has a chance of working.

Hey, if you guys have an idea for a eat and greet at a restaurant somewhere maybe in January or some other idea, I'm sure Santa will have brought some goodies that someone would like to show off.

Let's hear your ideas! We have a Carolina Wing joint in Florence that might work. SPEAK UP! I submitted an article to TDR from the Dyno Daze, Robert P said we missed the cutoff, but It should be in the next issue.

Jake's 12V is running too good to be true, we replaced all of the cable ends, saved all of the cable by crimping new ends on. Replaced the idler arm, tires were cupped badly, looks like we need a steering gear box also.

I was just at Indigo Joes last weekend. Well, time to start looking at calendars guys. Other suggestions are welcome too.

That's too far to drive for wings. Now i might consider it for a Porterhouse or bone in ribey. Especially if Gary is paying. :-laf

A good steak in Flo-town! Ha that's a laugh. Good luck with that. Now on the other hand TSRAM does have a nice cooker and between the two of us I think we could put a hurtin on some cow. Not that I'm volunteering him in anyway.

Ideas!

ACook can probally put a hurtin to a stack of wings.

Nope the cooker idea ain't out of the question. I have a real nice backyard campfire pit and spent many nights out there with a fire and theorizin about the great issues of the world, then crack something cold.

480Ruger, hows your truck? Saw you were looking for a fixit man in GA?

Editing, whose idea was it to promise you guys video anyway? Thats the last time I let that sucker volunteer for something!

Wasting my saturday AM fighting with a POS Nissan P/U timing chain installation , yuck!

Thanks for asking Gary,

It’s been nothing but a pain. All kinds of electrical problems and I don’t know where to start. I’m taking it to Jeff Garmon next week if he has any free time.

Got rear ended last time I was coming back from Atlanta. You should see the little totaled Ford. After the cop pulled up behind him a little old lady slid into the cop car and spun around and hit the poor guy’s car from the back. Now if that wasn’t enough the rollback backed into the front trying to load him up. Man what a day.

I’ll let everyone know what he finds.

480Ruger, how do you say:

ThatsabadsonofagunkindadayletsgetouttahereASAPijustwantotgohomeofficer?

Yesterday wan pretty bad too.

Worked on a 88 Nissan PU, replaced head gasket, found out we managed to let the cam chain tensioner fully expand, spent the best part of the day taking the entire front cover off of the 2. 4L junker, found and fixed the problem, supposed to go out tho dinner with a neighbor, they got sick, went anyway by our selves, got home settled in, phone rings, neighbors daughter (late model Jetta) hit a deer, not just a deer, but an already dead deer, coolant leaking all over, took the 97 and a tow strap, couldn't find any substantial hook point, used a brace off of the engine, she never got towed home before, took about 45 min at 10mph, got her home, get in the house and a blankety blank cat snuck in when the door was left open, ran upstairs, tore around the dining room got trapped in the bedroom ran for its life up walls, doors, curtains, over the bed back down one more time up the walls, finally covered it with a field jacket, darn near snuffed it right there, took the eight lived furry monster out and "let it free" into the evening. It looked like one of those scenes from COPS on Fox where animal control is on there first day on the job, lamps falling, curtains tore down, good thing the 870 wasn't handy.

I now hate old Nissan P/U's and deer hitting teenagers, and especially some one elses loose cat.

Have a nice day, I got to go work on the Nissan.

480Ruger,

I agree, Flo-Town holds not much for me, I'm in Hartsville, headquarters of Sonoco Packaging (eat more Pringles) and Stingray Boats. We just got a Lowe's so we hit the map.

Never been to Chapin, ain't it above Columbia?

Got the front cover on the Nissan, still one step away from being hauled to the range for target practice.

Cat ain't been seen all morning.

I know Hartsville at least the lakes there and D&S subs back when it was a small building and tasted great. Never got into the Yogi Bear Chicken. Used to put in at the little school across from Sonoco and go under the bridge up Black Creek. I also worked an Outage at Robinson this spring. That’s where the Twins and 6s came from.

Get things together and we will show up to have a few laughs. I want to see how the Jeeps are doing too.

D&S still exists, Yogi burned down and rebuilt on the same spot, we even have a funky coffee house The Midnight Rooster, worked an outage at Robinson, half of my neighbors work for Progress Energy, do you?

Hopefully monday some of the rest of the SCTRD gang will logon and catch up.

BEEEEGGGGG Suprise, the blankety blank Nissan Puke Up is running, how I don't know, but it's leaving as we type.

Saw the 8 lived cat at a neighbors house, temped to get the 870.

Not CP&L but SCE&G you know the smaller power co. I work at the plant in Columbia. I see we have a new member you need to PM. Keep'em coming.

Welcome Kyle

Kyle,

Your application for membership and the associated dues payment have both been received at SCTDR HQ, reviewed and approved.

Nice to meet you, looking forward to meeting you in person. I have been asking the gang for ideas about getting together maybe in Jan for an meal and BS session, no plans yet, so far several are supporting the idea, we will get it scheduled.

I noticed you have a hand shaker, that's a good thing.

Progress, Santee, Pee Dee, SCE&G, lot's of energy companies, can't keep up with em.

Nissan is still gone, Dylan asked me if he should call me if something happens to the Nissan, I said, no wait a few minutes, let it get engulfed then call 911.

Thanks GCroyle,

We moved to South Carolina last year from Michigan so I could take a teaching job. I have had quite a challange trying to find local parts suppliers, there doesn't seem to be too many places around here that know anything about these trucks. I am looking forward in getting back into some pulls and drag racing. Right now I got to pull out the trans and swap it out and the clutch, third gear came apart just in time for Christmas:{ . I have a rebuilt NV4500 with the 1 3/8" input shaft and a cast iron tail shaft housing coming tomorrow so its going to be a long night tuesday and wednesday.

Kyle

Hopefully good news, I burned the first DVD test section from the Dyno Daze, it actually worked. Now I just have to compile the rest of the file, editing is pretty much done, then make copies on our DVD copy machine, get them mailed and hopefully nothing happens to slow this down.

Kyle, good luck with the clutch, keep your knuckles intact.
